AUSTIN, Texas — It is official. For the foreseeable future, the Dell Technologies Match Play has been discontinued.
Jordan Uppleger was vice president and executive Director of PGA Tour championship Management. He made the announcement Monday at Austin Country Club.
Uppleger stated, “We are formally announcing today the 2023 World Golf Championship Dell Technologies Match Play is the last playing of the event here in Austin Country Club and will not be included on either the 2024 or moving forward”
“The Austin Country Club has been a great venue for the event.
It’s time to hold a major match-play open championship for women and men
He said, “I was told that you needed three components for a successful event. You had to have an active title sponsor and an engaging country club, as well as a support community and client base.” “And it is clear that this event has exceeded all expectations since we have been here since 2016.
Uppleger announced that there will not be a match-play event on the PGA Tour’s schedule next year.
Golfweek reported in February that the event would be cancelled after this year’s play. Its place in the 2024 schedule is usually in March at the Florida Swing’s back end. The Cadence Bank Houston Open will likely fill it, unless the bank prefers to move the date into the late April/early mai timeframe as part of a shuffling.

Uppleger stated Monday that the Tour would consider Austin if the circumstances were right. The tournament’s seven-year history has seen the WGC event be one of the most popular on Tour. With the beautiful Pennybacker Bridge overlooking the Colorado River, Austin Country Club has become one of the circuit’s most memorable venues.
Since 2016, when Dell became the title sponsor, the Match Play has been hosted by the ACC. The World Golf Championships were the top-ranking tournaments in golf at the time. They were behind the four majors, and the Players Championship, which was the Tour’s flagship event.

We would definitely consider Austin, Texas in the future. Although it’s not on our ’24 calendar, we can clearly see the success we have had here. It’s clear that our team would be looking at the .”
