Jordan Spieth’s second round of the 2023 Players Championship was, without a doubt, a wild ride.
It began with birdies on the 11th and 10th holes at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach. Then, a bogey. A double. Another double. Another double.
Spieth stood on the ninth hole, his final hole of day. He was 2 over for tournament play and 5 over in round 2. To guarantee a weekend tee, he likely needed birdie. His tee shot, which was curved to his right on the par 5, was hitting the water.
It was a good thing that Spieth had a fan’s knee. Instead of likely going into the lake at the ninth, the ball bounced back into fairway.

Spieth hit his approach shot just short of the green and, in typical Spieth fashion, chipped in for an eagle. He is now at even-par 140 and will be there for the weekend.
Spieth stated, “I had an extremely lucky break at 9 otherwise I wouldn’t have been playing the weekend.” “Trying to get the information of that guy and see literally everything he wants this weekend, because everything from now on is because he hit it.”
Kudos to the man who handed the glove Spieth after the accident to a child.
