LIV Golf Adelaide is the quintessential upstart event. It brought together tens and thousands of golfers, a party-hole with a DJ, and a team contest that was fought to the end.
LIV’s stopover in Australia was, by all accounts a great success. Can they repeat that success at future events? Bryce DeChambeau, the captain of Crushers GC, seems to agree.
DeChambeau said of the last week’s tournament ahead of LIV Golf in Singapore, which will take place this week at Sentosa Golf Club. There’s been controversy, but the main thing is that we are all here to play golf and do our best every week. It was great to see the fans supporting us.
There’s no doubt about it, the fan support in Australia was very strong. LIV’s most-attended event was last year’s Team Championship at Trump National Doral in Miami. The event was not a Donald Trump rallies like that held at his Bedminster estate last summer. Fans showed up in large numbers compared to the other LIV events. The Team Championship was moved this year from Miami to Saudi Arabia. Beer showers in a party hole is not only unlikely but illegal.
Even the event this week in Singapore will be very different from what Australian fans experienced. DeChambeau is expecting 6,000-7,000 spectators per day. This is less than half the daily attendance in Adelaide.
Cameron Tringale said, “I believe it will continue to grow and exponentially increase, just because of the attractiveness of the product, creating that festival-like atmosphere.” “That’s exactly what people want.” “I think that the next generation wants to have a good time and be entertained as much as it does quality golf. And you get both with LIV.”
Cameron Smith has admitted that the LIV field at the Masters isn’t deep. Phil Mickelson said LIV made a smart decision to not only go after the great players such as Smith and Dustin Johnson but also characters like him, DeChambeau, and Patrick Reed.
Mickelson said, “Whether you like them or not, people are interested in watching them.”
“Now, a lot of countries want us to go there. So it was a huge step in Adelaide for showcasing what LIV Golf could be,” he said. “There is no stopping LIV Golf.” It’s a very exciting time to be part of this.
LEGAL BLAST: Court rules PIF, LIV must comply with documents and witnesses for depositions
LIV Golf is proud to be disruptive, but players continue to take shots at each other in the professional golf world. Some players have already noticed a shift in the attitude towards LIV after only 12 events.
“I believe the tide is shifting. Bubba Watson, RangeGoats GC’s captain, said that people are beginning to realize how much fun they are having. They are also noticing the teamwork and the high-level competition. “I believe it’s changing… everyone has their own ideas about what golf should be like, but I think we’re changing it.
The current schedule makes it impossible to recreate the atmosphere in Australia for all 14 events. But maybe that is a good thing. Watson said that golf was lacking a team-oriented atmosphere, and fans loved the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup. “So why not make it happen all year long?”
The fact that the Cup events are not held every year makes them special, apart from the national and regional pride. Anticipation builds. LIV events won’t always be spectacular, especially when the host country and venue aren’t altered. Fans have seen the impact LIV can make in a short period of time, thanks to the Public Investment Fund’s deep pockets. LIV plans to continue growing.
We are talking about teams coming from all over the world. We’re talking about our own golf course, which we will call our stadium. Watson said that we are looking at golf academies for young golfers and also golfers who want to compete with us, like any other sport team in the world. Watson said, “There are a lot dreams and aspirations. We’ve accomplished a lot in less than one year. But we want to continue moving forward.”
