CHARLOTTE (N.C.) – This is the Presidents Cup. The Cup will be decided by a dozen singles matches at Charlotte’s Quail Hollow Club on Sunday. Presidents Cup: Saturday Four-ball and Foursome match recaps The U.S. Team at the Presidents Cup The U.S. team leads by four points at the Presidents Cup. However, the International team has the momentum after winning the last three matches on Saturday to keep its hopes alive for being the underdog. The Presidents Cup is not defined by Sunday victories, which is largely due to the dominance of the United States. Three years ago, the U.S. won the Cup at Royal Melbourne. This was the largest event in its history. Here are some previews of Sunday’s singles session to help you prepare for the Presidents Cup’s final day. MATCH 19 Justin Thomas (U.S.) vs. Si Woo Kim (Intl. , 12:02 p.m. Sunday’s proceedings will be led by two former PLAYERS champions. The emotional leader of the U.S. is Thomas. Team, coming off a 4-0-0 performance alongside Jordan Spieth in team play. Kim was 2-1-0, and will be undoubtedly charged up after riding with Tom Kim in Saturday’s emotional afternoon match. Kim lost his Presidents Cup singles match of 2017, while Thomas is currently 0-2 in Presidents Cup Solos. MATCH 20 Jordan Spieth (U.S.) vs. Cameron Davis (Intl. 12:14 p.m. Spieth & Thomas were a winning duo in team play. Love III hopes they’ll make a great leadoff couple. Spieth is currently 0-3 in Presidents Cup Singles. Davis is 2-2-0 this week including a clutch eagle birdie-birdie win to score a 1 up win in Saturday’s Four-balls. MATCH 21 Sam Burns (U.S.) vs. Hideki Matsuyama (Intl. ), 12:26 p.m. They have combined for five wins in the season, but both are struggling this week and they each only earn 1.5 points. Matsuyama almost won the PGA Championship here in Quail Hollow. He is currently 2-1-1 in Presidents Cup singles. MATCH 22 Patrick Cantlay (U.S.) vs. Adam Scott (Intl. ), 12:38 p.m. This should be a great display. Both are coming in after strong performances at the FedExCup Playoffs. Adam Scott won the BMW Championship, while Cantlay took the TOUR Championship with two top-five finishes. Scott is currently 5-4-0 in Singles and would be second to Tiger Woods in the number of Presidents Cup Singles matches won. MATCH 23 Scottie Scheffler (U.S.) vs. Sebastian Munoz (Intl. ), 12:50 p.m. This match will be between two Presidents Cup rookies. However, one of them is the World No. 1. Munoz impressed in his debut by going 1-0-1. He also had a string of back-nine birdsies to halve with Scheffler and Burns in an intense Four-ball match. MATCH 24 Tony Finau (U.S.) vs. Taylor Pendrith (Intl. ), 1:02 p.m. Grab your popcorn. This match will be called a Home Run Derby and features two of the longest drivers on the TOUR. Both of these players finished in the top 15 in Strokes Gained Off-the-Tee this season. Finau is at 2-1 this week, while Pendrith is trying to avoid going 0-4. After he tied Hideki Maatsuyama in 2019, Finau is now 0-0-1 in his Presidents Cup Singles match. MATCH 25 Xander Schauffele (U.S.) vs. Corey Conners (Intl. , 1:14 p.m. Schauffele was obviously frustrated in the media center Saturday evening after Cantlay and he lost the last hole of their afternoon match. Schauffele is mad. How can he play? He said, “Like a child.” Conners will, like Pendrith, be trying to avoid going 0-4 in this week’s Presidents Cup Singles. Schauffele is 2-1 this week with Patrick Cantlay. He wants to improve his Presidents Cup Singles record from 2-0, after beating Adam Scott in 2019. MATCH 26 Cameron Young (U.S.) vs. Sungjae Im (Intl. , 1:26 p.m. An ex-PGA TOUR Rookie Of The Year will be playing against the likely winner. The award was won by Im in 2019, and he has been awarded twice more on the PGA TOUR. This is due in part to a strong, short game which has been displayed this week. Young is well-known for his prodigious power and ability to play in big moments. He also won two top-threes at majors this year. MATCH 27 Billy Horschel (U.S.) vs. K.H. Lee (Intl. ), 1:38 p.m. The only player on the property that has gone hatless is Horschel, partly to display his impressive head of hair. He’s playing against a man who once declared that he wanted to be the sexiest ever golfer. Horschel was the winner of this year’s Memorial Tournament presented to Workday, while Lee won the AT&T Byron Nelson. However, they have only played in two matches this week. Horschel was 1-1 in the Four-balls, while Lee was 1-1 in the Foursomes matches with Tom Kim MATCH28 Max Homa (U.S.A.) vs. Tom Kim(Intl. , 1:50 p.m. Tweeter is not ready for this match. This week’s king of Golf Twitter will take on the star who is causing a sensation with his exuberant celebrations. This week, Kim and Homa have both written 18th-hole heroics. Homa was awarded his first PGA TOUR title in 2019, and is fresh from a win at the Fortinet Championship last week. Kim has already made history in North Carolina by winning the Wyndham Champion earlier this year, to become the second-youngest TOUR champion since World War II. MATCH 29 Collin Morikawa (U.S.) vs. Mito Pereira (Intl. , 2:02 p.m. Presidents Cup newcomers Morikawa (U.S.) vs. Mito Pereira (Intl.). Both Pereira and Morikawa should be well-rested since they have only played twice each so far in the Singles. Both were unable to attend the Saturday Four-ball session. Morikawa, 25, has won five times on the PGA TOUR and holds a PGA Championship as well as an Open Championship. Morikawa will face Pereira in this match. Pereira has won three times on Korn Ferry Tour, but has not yet won on the PGA TOUR. Pereira led the PGA Championship at Southern Hills in may, but double-bogeyed hole 72. MATCH 30 Kevin Kisner (U.S.) vs. Christiaan Bezuidenhout (Intl. ), 2:14 p.m. Match play specialist Kisner was undefeated in the 2017 Presidents Cup (2-0-2), and is a three time finalist at WGC-Dell Technologies’ Match Play – he won that event in 2019. He will be the favorite to win the match against South Africa’s Bezuidenhout. Kisner (38), is the oldest American player. After Will Zalatoris’ back injury, Kisner, 38, was the obvious choice to be U.S. Captain Davis Love III. Bezuidenhout, a strong putter, was one of the highlights for the International Team’s first two days. He and Mito Pereira won a tie-breaking Friday Four-ball match against Kisner. Bezuidenhout, like Kisner was a captain’s choice and is a favorite of Trevor Immelman (an international Captain).
