BetMGM’s online sportsbook believes that the 2022-23 PGA TOUR season opens with Max Homa, a U.S. Presidents Cup player, defending his Fortinet Championship at Silverado Resort & Spa Napa, California. Sam Burns (Valspar Championship), K.H. K.H. Sam Burns (Valspar Championship), Patrick Cantlay, Lee (AT&T Byron Nelson), defended their TOUR titles last year. Homa, who has +1400 the best odds of winning (+1400), hopes to be the first person to achieve this feat in the season opener. Homa leads the pack with 15.6% of handle on 8.2% tickets, second only to Sahith Thegala. Homa, 31, is coming off his best year in TOUR. He won twice and finished fifth at the TOUR Championship. Homa shot back-to-back 65s last weekend to beat Maverick McNealy in a stroke. He was selected by U.S. Captain Davis Love III as one of six players for the Presidents Cup. However, he is still the only player from his team who is putting it all together. International Team stars Hideki Motyama, Corey Conners and Taylor Pendrith will be there. Matsuyama tied for Homa with best odds to win in Napa. All five Quail Hollow players are among the top seven in ticket percentage. Silverado Resort & Spa measures 7,123 yards and is considered one of the most challenging courses that players will ever play. The course is highlighted by four par-5s that are easily reachable. This means players who have been successful on shorter par-5s will be able to play well this week. Homa is one of the top 10 players for par-5 scoring holes that measure 550-600 yards. McNealy is another player who is generating lots of interest in betting. He has had great success at events in California, where he played his college golf (Stanford). He currently draws the third-most tickets (6.3), and third-most handles (9%). Theegala, who is coming off a strong rookie season, is now drawing the second-most tickets (8.9%), and the third-most handles (10.3). Pepperdine’s product was T-46 at last year’s event, partially due to the final round 75.
