AUGUSTA (Ga.) – The Masters started giving its champions replica trophy made of sterling silver from the Augusta National clubhouse thirty years ago. Over 900 pieces of sterling silver were used to make the original trophy, which was made in England in 1961. Jordan Spieth keeps the replica in his office. He only enters it when his 1-year old son Sammy is unaccompanied. Spieth stated that he only visits the replica once every five to six months.
Spieth, who was awarded the trophy, stated that it is “one of those things I don’t care about – I see me caring more towards 25 year from now.” “But I’m going to pretend that I haven’t won anything until then.”
Spieth is seven strokes behind Brooks Koepka heading into the weekend at The 87th Masters. Forecasts for the weekend predict rain, gusts of up to 30 mph, and much cooler temperatures. Jack Burke Jr. holds record for the largest comeback in 36 holes after eight strokes, which was achieved in 1956.

Spieth stated that the benefit to those of us who chase is that there will be extremely difficult conditions and that this makes it harder for all of us. This means that a few people will go a long distance.
At 4:22 p.m., play was stopped. ET Friday in the second round of the tournament, shortly after Spieth’s 2-under 70. The tournament’s 2015 Masters champion is 5 under.
Spieth hit nine consecutive pars on the back nine and 11 greens in the first two rounds.
He said that greens in regulation was the one thing he has not done well this week. “It’s one stat out there that is very important, and it will be just as important this weekend.”
“Plan to place the ball in the fat area of the green. Trust speed control to make sure you are able to hit putts within 5 feet. These conditions are not ideal for being aggressive. It doesn’t mean you have to be a pro at making up shots in bad conditions. The par 5s are your chances, and the rest, if one or two of them is stolen, that’s great.
Spieth stated that he has won strokes in all four of his previous starts: driving, approach and chipping, as well as putting. He noted that mental errors are the most common reason for his problems this week.
Five times, Spieth finished in the top three of the Masters. Each time, he hit at least 72 percent on the greens. He’s currently at 61 percent.
Spieth was five shots ahead of Jon Rahm after 36 holes in 2015 when he won. This match the tournament record. Koepka currently holds the clubhouse lead of 12 under. Jon Rahm is three shots behind, with nine holes to play, and Sam Bennett has four shots behind. Bennett shot a second consecutive score of 68.
Spieth, when asked about Friday night’s sleep quality, said that he was younger than Koepka.
Spieth stated, “I believe for me, I was 21 years old and hadn’t won any majors yet.” Brooks is 32-33 and has won four majors. This one has not been won by him, which is a bit more than he thought, but it’s still a new scenario for him. These leads have been used by him more than I did at the time.
Koepka won the LIV Golf Orlando last week and was last in 2019 to win a major.
Koepka said, “I don’t know,” when asked to make a comparison between now and then. “I’m three years older than I was then.” That makes a huge difference.
“I don’t know but I feel the same as man.”
