It’s not surprising, considering that 20-under is the usual target and birdiefests open the doors for all. Because of the layout and lack of yardage, it’s not surprising. Everyone believes that they have a chance this week with the 7,000 yard limit. Class players and veterans do well here as they are able to keep their balls out of the rough, and can find the right levels on the putting greens. It is important to know that there are birdies on all holes so you don’t have to risk every approach or tee shot. Russell Henley was the only debutant winner this century. He did it in his first TOUR event! He was a wild card, setting the tournament record of -24 and scoring three rounds of 63. In his second start of 2018, Patton Kizzire won. In recent times, everyone else has taken eight rounds or more to figure it all out. Jimmy Walker, the only multiple winner from 2004, is this week’s field. KJ Choi (2008) and Zach Johnson (2009) were past champions. The prize package includes 500 FedExCup points and $1.422 million from the $7.9million purse for the first 2023 winner in a full-field event.
