The Launch of the Women’s Elite Amateur Golf Series
The Elite Amateur Golf Series is proud to announce the creation of a new series that aims to bring together the top competitive amateur events in the United States. This exciting venture, known as the Women’s Elite Amateur Golf Series (WEAGS), will officially kick off in the summer of 2024. Consisting of five prestigious women’s amateur events with a combined history of over 345 years, the WEAGS is set to make a significant impact on the world of women’s golf.
The Five Featured Events
The Women’s Elite Amateur Golf Series will showcase five outstanding women’s amateur events. These events include the Sea Island Women’s Amateur, Southwestern Women’s Amateur, North & South Women’s Amateur, Women’s Western Amateur, and the Ladies National Golf Association (LNGA) Amateur. Each of these tournaments has a rich history and is well-regarded within the golfing community.
A Vision for Elevating Elite Women’s Golf
Andy Priest, Executive Director of the Southern Golf Association and Chairperson of the Elite Amateur Golf Series, expressed his enthusiasm for the WEAGS and its mission to elevate elite women’s golf. He stated, “Since day one, our goal has been to align the top competitive amateur events in the United States, not only for the men’s game but for the women’s game as well. We are excited to play a leading role in providing these athletes with an aligned summer schedule of competition at renowned venues conducted by historic organizations and world-class resorts.”
The Series Schedule
The Women’s Elite Amateur Golf Series will kick off with the Sea Island Women’s Amateur, which will take place at the iconic Seaside Course in St. Simons Island, Georgia, from May 29-31. Two weeks later, the series will head west to Scottsdale, Arizona, for the Southwestern Women’s Amateur at the Desert Mountain Club from June 12-15. Pinehurst will host the men’s and women’s North & South Amateur simultaneously on Courses No. 2 and No. 4 from June 25-29, shortly after hosting the U.S. Open. The Women’s Western Amateur, now in its 124th year, will return to Onwentsia Club in Lake Forest, Illinois, from July 16-20. The series will conclude with the 94th LNGA Amateur at Hot Springs Country Club in Hot Springs, Arkansas, from July 23-25.
The Elite Amateur Cup
Similar to the men’s series, the Women’s Elite Amateur Golf Series will feature the Elite Amateur Cup, a summer-long competition. The Elite Amateur Cup will utilize the WEAGS event results from the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) as its point system. The top performers in the final standings will earn exemptions into USGA Championships and other professional playing opportunities, which will be announced at a later date.
The Best of the Best
The Elite Amateur Golf Series prides itself on being “The Best of the Best.” This tagline perfectly encapsulates the caliber of players, venues, and competition that the series offers. The events in the Women’s Elite Amateur Golf Series are renowned for providing the most challenging tests in amateur golf. These championships are comparable to the majors of amateur golf and will now showcase the talents of both men and women.
In conclusion, the Women’s Elite Amateur Golf Series is set to revolutionize the world of women’s golf in the United States. By bringing together top-tier events and providing a platform for elite female athletes to compete, the series will elevate the sport to new heights.
