PEBBLE BEACH (CALIFORNIA) – Kelly Xu, a Stanford student, and Sadie Englemann, a Stanford amateur, hit the first tee shot off Nos. Pebble Beach made history when the first and tenth holes were played. This was the first time a women’s major was ever played on this American treasure. It was not a good start for some of the best.
World No. World No. Nelly Korda, who started at the 10th hole, dug herself a big hole, scoring a shocking 79, and 76 respectively. Even worse, Natthakritta vongtaveelap was disqualified for her five-hole performance.
As is common, several amateurs enjoyed career days, with three of 27 placing in the top 10.
