Vista Ridge High School’s golf team arrived at Avery Ranch Golf Course earlier in the week to practice. They were shocked when an adult entertainment club held its annual charity tournament.
KXAN-TV Austin reports that Vista Ridge’s assistant athletic coordinator Keith Allen wrote a letter to his parents to explain the situation. According to the letter, the Yellow Rose Cabaret’s annual charity tournament was being conducted in an “inappropriate manner” and the golfers were “aware of some lewd behavior.”
The practice was cancelled that day and the next day, while school staffers tried to clarify the matter with the management team at the golf course.
KXAN reports that school staff met with Avery Ranch management on Tuesday. A letter was sent to parents by Adam Owen, Avery Ranch’s owner/GM. He stated that he does not condone inappropriate behavior and that the course will not host the event again in the future.
The note also stated that the coach had noted that the high school, which is located about 30 minutes north from Austin, has enjoyed a “20-year positive working relation with Avery Ranch” and that the management of the golf course was “very sorry” for the incident.
Allen wrote to parents, “We are sorry for this and appreciate your support as you work to restore trust between our players and their families.” “What happened yesterday is unacceptable and we will work closely to Avery Ranch so that this does not happen again.”
Calls to Golfweek and the coach were not returned.
After the incident, The Yellow Rose Cabaret posted the following to its Facebook page.
“Any attempt by golf course to surprise or deceive the adult nature tournament is disingenuous. “This was their mistake,” said the post.
A post continued to state that this was a private event, and that the adult club had rented out the course for the whole day.
The Yellow Rose has held their annual charity golf tournament at Avery Ranch over the past four years. The Yellow Rose can rent the entire course at Avery Ranch, which is a private course. The tournament was the same as any other. The tournament was only for adults, and children were not allowed to play on the course during it. High school golfers did not play on the actual course but only the driving range. This was an area that our marshals were not allowed to supervise. The post stated that we were unaware that the Yellow Rose Tournament was being held at the same time as a high school practice.
Fox News reported that the athlete’s inappropriate behavior was being viewed by the councilmember representing the region.
Mackenzie Kelly, Austin City Council member, stated that she began receiving complaints from constituents regarding what had occurred. She spoke to Fox News Digital on Thursday. “I don’t believe any student should have to be exposed to such behavior out at the club that day. Photos of women in topless g-strings and drinking alcohol have been shown to me. According to my sources, there were many women who danced on top of golf carts with no clothing.
