JACKSON, Miss. Brandon Matthews doesn’t necessarily like dancing. However, he did enjoy dancing last Saturday. TOUR rookie Danielle married his college sweetheart in a ceremony in Philadelphia. The two met at Temple College. Danielle was a reporter for OwlSports Update, which covered Matthews first college victory. The off-week was a perfect time to tie the knot. The first dance was set to Dave Matthews Band’s song “You and Me”. Danielle laughed, “He hates dancing and we were going for a lesson in dance, but our schedules are insane, so we weren’t able,” Danielle said. “So we just did it and it seemed to be a good idea,” Brandon said. Danielle confirmed that it was a “10 out 10”. The wedding vibes continued into the Sanderson Farms Championship where the newlyweds were on a sort of honeymoon. Matthews won the morning-wave lead at the Country Club of Jackson with a 5-under 67 score. This was his second TOUR start. Matthews was the only person who had a chance to play in a competitive round for his first time as a newlywed. Danielle said, “Just a smile on my face watching him do what his love,” on a Thursday afternoon. “On our honeymoon,” the journey has made the destination even more special. Matthews was awarded his first TOUR card through the 2022 Korn Ferry Tour Regular Season. This season saw him win the Astara Championship presented by Mastercard in Bogota. Matthews is a long-standing player who was considered one of the best in the game. However, he faced many challenges early on in his career, mainly due to injury, before finding his stride. Matthews, a Pennsylvania native, developed his power early in his career. He would drive a car with one focus: to carry a creek. Once he was successful, he would move back a few yards. Matthews was ranked No. He is ranked No. 4 on the 2022 Korn Ferry Tour within driving distance. He was ranked No. He was ranked No. 2 in this category in 2018, behind Cameron Champ. The 2019 season ended at the top of the list. The difficult 2019 season was a challenging one, and he fell into a vicious cycle with bad habits and injuries. Matthews fell into a rut, and eventually lost his card. Matthews was an optimist who still believes in the possibility of playing professional golf for a living. He fought to get his card back. Matthews gained fame for his grace after missing a putt in the fall 2019 playoff of PGA TOUR Latinoamerica. Matthews spent time with the Down syndrome fan who yelled at him during his birdie attempt. Matthews stated that “some things in life are just larger than golf.” Matthews returned to PGA TOUR Latinoamerica, where he finished at the top of the 2020-21 Order of Merit. This earned him full 2022 Korn Ferry Tour status. It was a dramatic end to his time on the circuit. Matthews, presented by United Leasing & Finance at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship, drove the green on Victoria National GC’s 432-yard par-4 18th. It measures 368 yards and requires eagle. The golf world was alerted when he missed the cut. Matthews’ prodigious game would soon be the best on the world. Philip Knowles, a Korn Ferry Tour graduate, said Matthews’ ability to move long off the tee. Matthews said, “You can’t train that kind of stuff.” Although Matthews may not have the same opinion about Matthews’ dancing abilities (aside from on his wedding day), the honeymoon vibe was evident in Matthews’ interactions with Danielle following the first round at Sanderson Farms Championship. Similar sentiments were shared by Matthews in his first month as a TOUR professional. Matthews stated Thursday at the Country Club Jackson that he loves doing this job for a living. “I’m lucky enough to be able to do this for a living. It’s a privilege to be able to play in competitive golf for a living every day. “I consider myself one the luckiest men in the world to have the ability to play this for a living because I love it so much.” He also has a 67.00 stroke average as married man. Matthews laughed and said that he had told Matthews when he walked away, “We should have married sooner.”
