JACKSON, Miss. Alejandro Tosti is currently residing in Jackson, Miss. He doesn’t know the answer, like many aspiring PGA TOUR pros. He is from Argentina and he has aspirations to compete on the Korn Ferry Tour next year. It makes for a quasi-nomadic existence. Tosti doesn’t know where he will be staying this weekend. He qualified for the Sanderson Farms Championship on Monday and made the cut with rounds of 72 to 68. Now he will be moving on to round three at Jackson Country Club. This marks his first TOUR cut. The 26-year old earned a tee-time in Mississippi with a 5-under-67 on Monday and a birdie at the first playoff hole. After a par 72 on Thursday, he lit up early Friday with two eagles, one birdie and a birdie in the first five holes. He then finished the round with an 8-foot birdie, to keep within striking distance of the weekend. He is now at 4 under and six strokes behind his co-leaders Mackenzie Hughes and Thomas Detry. A player will treasure the moment of making their first TOUR cut as a scrapbook moment. Tosti was a perfect fit for this role, as he answered media questions in Mississippi Friday evening. Tosti spoke about his long-held dream of playing professional golf, and the sacrifices his parents made over the years. Although his American home is not yet known, he has established a base at Gainesville where he played collegiately. Buddy Alexander, his long-time coach, recruited him to Florida. Tyson Alexander is a rookie on the TOUR via the Korn Ferry Tour. Tosti’s weekend goal is to execute every shot to his best ability and let destiny take its course. He is enjoying it. Tosti stated Friday night, “Being able play on the PGA TOUR has been a dream for us.” “I began playing golf at a young age and have always wished to become a professional golfer. It means a lot to my family to be able to do this. My family has done so much for my well-being, as have I. They’ve made so many sacrifices and worked hard my whole life. It’s amazing to do this kind of work. It’s hard to describe the feelings that I felt.” Tosti was released this fall by his brilliant season on PGA TOUR Latinoamerica. Tosti won the 90 Abierto del Centro Memorial Eduardo Gato Romero Ptdo por Telecom, en route to a fifth place finish on the Order of Merit. He was granted direct access to the Final Stage of Korn Ferry Tour’s Q-School in November. With a view to achieving a top 40 position, he will compete at The Landings club in Savannah. This will guarantee him a guaranteed Korn Ferry Tour start next spring. He decided to take a trip to the TOUR’s Monday qualifying circuit to test his skills against the best. This year, he’s exempted from the pre-qualifiers and can play directly in the Monday qualifier fields. Tosti had planned to fly to Las Vegas ahead of the Shriners Children’s Open qualifier next week in the event that Tosti failed to qualify for Sanderson Farms Championship. They changed plans, and they will change again. His week in Mississippi will continue for a few more days. It’s a great problem to have. Tosti stated, “To make the cut on the PGA TOUR for the first time is something I will never forget.” It’s important to me to be able play with the best players and make the cut. This is a huge boost to my confidence, and it gives me the confidence to know I can do it. It’s quite cool to play four days and be able put up four rounds on PGA TOUR. It’s a great way to start my career. Tosti laughed and said, “I would sign it.” “Just tell us where it is.”
