Returning to the PGA Tour
After a long hiatus due to a recurring rib injury, Bud Cauley is finally set to make his first start on the PGA Tour since the 2020 Fortinet Championship. The 33-year-old golfer, who suffered a devastating car accident in 2018 resulting in broken ribs, a broken leg, and a collapsed lung, has been eagerly anticipating his return to competitive golf.
A Challenging Recovery Journey
Cauley’s road to recovery has been far from easy. Despite resuming his playing career after the accident, his rib injury never fully healed. In April 2021, he underwent surgery to remove the plates in his chest, but the procedure was unsuccessful due to bone growth. This setback led to further complications, including a popped incision, multiple surgeries, and infections.
Cauley’s resilience and determination to return to the sport he loves kept him going throughout the challenging recovery process. He made several attempts to resume practicing, but it wasn’t until September that he hit his first golf ball since the accident.
A New Lease on His Playing Career
Despite the setbacks and doubts that came with a prolonged recovery, Cauley’s latest surgery appears to have given him a fresh start. He recently competed in two rehab starts on the Korn Ferry Tour in The Bahamas, finishing in the top 35 in both events. With 27 Tour starts remaining on a major medical exemption, Cauley is eager to prove himself once again on the PGA Tour.
Support from Peers
Cauley’s talent and potential have always been recognized by his fellow golfers. Justin Thomas, who played alongside Cauley at the University of Alabama, has witnessed his friend’s determination and skill firsthand. Thomas has been practicing with Cauley in Florida and attests to his readiness to compete at the highest level.
Thomas stated, “He’s been kicking my ass at home, that’s for sure. I know how good Bud is and I know his raw talent. He’s just too good of a player to not have won out here at some point.”
A Bright Future Ahead
With his golf swing intact and his passion for the game reignited, Bud Cauley is ready to make his mark once again on the PGA Tour. His journey of overcoming adversity serves as an inspiration to all golfers, reminding them of the resilience and determination required to succeed in this highly competitive sport.
As Cauley prepares to tee off at the WM Phoenix Open, the golfing world eagerly awaits his return, rooting for his success and hoping to witness the resurgence of a true talent.
More Bud Cauley awaits!
