Donald Trump was a participant in the pro-am that led up to the LIV Golf Series event at Bedminster, New Jersey. His group was the only one with carts. Most of them were occupied by Secret Service personnel. He offered tips to Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, and several times he gave praises to the course. Unprompted.
The same Thursday will be played by Trump in the pro-am. This is the day before LIV’s last event of the season begins at Trump National Doral.
The public is not allowed to view the pro-am.
Trump’s 18-hole round will feature two pros: one on each the front and back nine. In July, Trump played at Bedminster with Johnson and DeChambeau and his group was six under. They were one stroke behind the lead. Wednesday will determine the pros in Trump’s Doral group.
After playing nine holes with Trump in July, DeChambeau stated that it was an honor. It’s an honor to be able to play with any president, past or present, I mean. I am very fortunate to have had a relationship with him. He has always been generous to my needs.”
Trump has partnered with LIV, a breakaway tour financed partly by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. This is partly due to his dislike for the PGA Tour. LIV’s inaugural season saw two of its eight events held on Trump properties. LIV could add more Trump courses to its schedule next season, as it expands to fourteen events.
Trump in July told golfers on PGA Tour to “take the money soon,” predicting that the Tour would merge with LIV Golf. Trump’s anger over professional golf is due to the PGA Tour moving its World Golf Championship event from Doral and Mexico in 2017, and the PGA of America moving 2022 PGA Championship from his club in Bedminster following the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
Trump posted on Truth Social that all golfers who remain ‘loyal to the very disloyal PGA in all its forms will pay a heavy price when the inevitable MERGER comes. You get nothing but a big thank you’ from PGA officials making millions of dollars a year.
Trump is an avid golfer and has played with Hall of Famer and legend golfers at his West Palm Beach and Jupiter courses. Trump is said to have played more golf while in office than any other president. According to DeChambeau, he stated that no president can hit the ball like he can during his round at Bedminster.
DeChambeau said, “That’s his funny one he speaks about all the time.” “You know, it’s accurate from what I’ve seen and what I heard. But he’s up there.”
DeChambeau was questioned about Trump’s game.
He said, “He’s actually really good golfer.” He can putt it well and he can shave it down the fairway.
Ernie Els, a Hall of Famer who lives in Jupiter and played with Trump several times, was part of Trump’s foursome when he made a hole in one at his West Palm Beach course in April.
Els stated that Els hit the ball better than any other player… he’s 75 now 76,” Els said to the Palm Beach Post back in April. He can strike the ball. He is very contact-oriented. He has a great swing.
“Like an amateur, you have to practice the game. I kept talking to him about his chipping. He is a very skilled putter. He was a 4- or 5 handicap back in his day. He’s probably a 10, 12, or 13 today.
In July, Trump was asked how many holes in one he had in his lifetime.
“Seven. He said seven, legally. People say “Oh wow! I have seven.”
