As the highly anticipated week-long senior amateur golf extravaganza kicks off at Desert Willow Golf Club in Palm Desert, California, on April 1, the lineup of contenders promises to be nothing short of extraordinary.
Field Packed with Talent
The Golfweek Senior Division National Championship will see a competitive field of 90 players, all aged 55 and above, battling it out in a single division across 54 holes. Past champions Jerry Gunthorpe and Gary Albrecht are set to make their return, alongside a star-studded lineup that includes top-ranked Kevin VandenBerg, Matt Avril (No. 3), and Steve Maddalena (No. 6).
Desert Willow: A Golfing Gem
Desert Willow Golf Club, a public facility owned by the city of Palm Desert, boasts the picturesque Mountain View layout, the venue for the upcoming Golfweek event. Designed by renowned architects Michael Hurdzan, Dana Fry, John Cook, and landscape architect Eric Johnson, the course offers stunning mountain vistas and a scenic desert backdrop.
Exciting Competitions Ahead
Following the National Championship, the Golfweek Senior Amateur will take place at Willow Creek from April 5-7, featuring four age divisions: 55-64, 65-69, 70-74, and 75 and over. Notable participants include Grady Brame, Craig Hurlbert, and Allen Peake, each bringing their own unique skill set and experience to the competition.
Spotlight on Super Seniors
The event will also showcase top-ranked super senior Jim Starnes and defending champion Jeff Burda in the 65-69 age group, while John Seehausen returns to defend his title in the Super Legends division.
