If you’re a big fan of golf, you can find a wealth of information in golf history books. From the early years in the 1800s to the present, there is plenty to learn about this sport. You can also learn about the greatest players, including Ben Hogan and Clifford Roberts, and you can even find a directory of golf facilities. The information in these books is not only fascinating but also educational. And, you can’t go wrong with any of them!
Ben Hogan
There are many stories about Ben Hogan, but what really sets him apart from the other golf legends? A renowned golfer and philanthropist, Hogan was the first American to win the Masters, and his name is forever linked with the game. Born in Fort Worth, Texas, Hogan was the third child of Clara Williams and a blacksmith. He lived in Dublin until the family moved to Fort Worth, Texas, in the early 1920s. Ben dropped out of Central High School during his senior year. He became a professional golfer six months before his 18th birthday, in 1930. In the mid-1920s, Hogan had met Valerie Fox in a Sunday school. The two were later reunited in Cleburne, Texas, where he would marry Valerie Fox.
Clifford Roberts
Although there are a number of people who would dispute the legitimacy of Clifford Roberts’ place in golf history books, it is hard to argue with the facts. Roberts was a Wall Street broker who bought 15 percent of Reynolds & Company in 1921, while still a young man. Born in Morning Sun, Iowa, Roberts’ family eventually moved to Texas, Kansas City, San Diego, and eventually, to Atlanta. In his early years, Roberts worked as a traveling wholesale clothing salesman and became a Wall Street broker.
Jack Nicklaus
The number of major championship wins attributed to Jack Nicklaus is impressive. The golf legend won 18 major tournaments and holds the record for the most Masters titles. In addition, he holds joint records in the PGA Championship and U.S. Open. He also won two U.S. Amateur Championships. Among his many accomplishments, the golf history books offer many practical tips for improving your game.
Kevin Robbins
There is no greater golf history book than Harvey Penick: The Life and Wisdom of the Man Who Wrote the Book. Penick is considered to be the greatest golf mind of all time, and Robbins had the pleasure of playing under him at Augusta National twenty years ago. The book details Penick’s rise to the top position in golf and also gives insight into the life of the man who wrote the book on golf.
Rick Reilly
In a book titled SO HELP ME GOLF, author Rick Reilly captures many elements of the game, from weird holes around the world to his relationship with Donald Trump. It isn’t a left-wing political rant, but rather a golfer’s takedown of the Trumps. Reilly reveals how a game of golf has saved him from depression and chronic anxiety.
