Brian Gay, the previous champion of three, will be the one to play this week as TOUR returns to Bermuda for its fourth consecutive season. Sleeper Picks Port Royal Golf Club in Southampton has been the canvas for the previous three editions and will take up that honor again this season. Robert Trent Jones designed the seaside property in 1970. He also helped to bring it up-to-date in 1995. Roger Rulewich completed the last major renovation in 2008-2009 as he was preparing for the Grand Slam of Golf (2009-2014). For the fourth consecutive edition, the Par-71 is at 6,828. Port Royal is a small town with only one Par-4 hole that extends beyond 440 yards. Two of the three Par-5 holes won’t exceed 520 yards, while the longest is only 553 yards. Wind is a constant here and protects the course from elevation changes and doglegs. There are only 19 acres of fairway, so it is possible to control the ball from the two inches of Bermuda/Zoysia. TOUR pros know how to navigate the Stimpmeter, so Champion Bermuda greens won’t be affected by wind or weather. Mother Nature will be in control as rain and thunderstorms are expected for tournament days. It will offer full prize money and all benefits to the winner for the third consecutive season. A trip to Maui in January for the Sentry Tournament of Champions and 500 FedExCup Points are on the line. Also, a walk down Magnolia Lane in April. These three previous winners were in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. They were all listed as +6000 or worse in pre-tournament odds. Want to know more about the course?
