MCKINNEY (Texas) — As Jason Day lined up his shot on the fairway, rain pelted him.
He fired a wedge at the pin at the 18th par-5 hole of TPC Craig Ranch. The ball landed right next to the flag. It took a small hop, then spun back two feet.
Jason Day’s winless streak on the PGA Tour is finally over. Day’s performance Sunday at the AT&T Byron Nelson was incredible. He shot a 9-under 62 and won by just one shot, at 23 under par. This is the same tournament where he won his first career victory 13 years ago.
Day’s victory is his first on the PGA Tour since the Wells Fargo Championship in 2018.

Austin Eckroat missed an eagle on the last hole that would have tied Day. He was one of three 54-hole leader. The 24-year-old Tour novice made a birdie on the final hole to tie Day at 22 under. He closed with a 6-under 65 and a bogey free finish, his best ever finish. He was the leader in Strokes Gained – Putting during the week.
“I felt great all day,” Eckroat said. “I slept well last night and was surprised at how good I felt. It helped to calm my nerves when I birdied the very first hole. I felt that I had played well enough to win.
It’s hard to beat someone who shoots nine under. There are many positives from which to build.”
Marty Dou, Ryan Palmer and the other two co-leaders shot each 3-under 68, finishing at 19 under par and T-7.
C.T. Pan was able to match Day’s 62 with two eagles in the back nine. This was also the lowest round in his PGA Tour Career by two shots.
