MEMPHIS (Tenn.) – Cam Smith may be $100 million more wealthy because of LIV Golf, but he’s not ready to admit it yet.
Smith was speaking at a press conference in advance of the start of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Playoffs, which took place in Memphis Tuesday. Smith refused to answer questions about whether he is going to be the next Tour star to depart for LIV Golf.
Smith didn’t, however, deny that there are multiple reports Tuesday that his departure is imminent.
The Telegraph newspaper reported Tuesday that Smith signed a $100 million contract with the LIV series. This was less than a month after Smith won the The Open Championship at St. Andrew’s. 2.
This news came shortly after Cameron Percy, a countryman and PGA Tour golfer, reported that Smith and Marc Leishman were “gone” earlier in the day.
“My goal is to win the FedEx Cup playoffs. Smith stated that this is all he was here for. Cameron Smith will speak up if there is anything I have to say about LIV or the PGA Tour. Cameron Percy won’t. I am a man of my word, and whatever you guys need to learn anything about the PGA Tour or LIV, I will say it.”

Smith refused to answer questions about whether he had signed any deals with LIV.
He said, “I’m here for the FedEx Cup Playoffs.” “That’s what I have been focusing on for the past week and a quarter. This is what I am here to do. I’m here for the FedEx Cup Playoffs. It’ll come from my side, just like I said. Cameron Percy will not be able to provide it.
Smith noted that he plans to continue playing in the Presidents Cup from September 20-25. He would not be eligible to compete if he joined LIV prior to then.
Smith, who won The Open Championship last month was also asked about LIV rumors and became frustrated at the questions in the immediate aftermath to his first major victory. Smith’s non-committal comments before the FedEx St. Jude Championship were made as a federal judge denied three LIV golfers in California a temporary restraining orders to Memphis this week.
