Ask the networks and look at the numbers to see if the PGA Tour designated events work.
The 2023 RBC Heritage attracted 4,152 million viewers, a 13 percent increase from last year. This is a week after CBS announced that the final round of 2023 Masters had been the most watched golf broadcast over the past five-year period. The final round, which featured a three hole playoff between eventual winner Matt Fitzpatrick (and defending champion Jordan Spieth), was the most watched final round of Tour’s Season.
The RBC Heritage final was the fourth-most watched sporting event of the weekend, behind three NBA playoffs.
According to Josh Carpenter of Sports Business Journal, the duel between Fitzpatrick vs Spieth in the final round was the most watched final round at the RBC Heritage ever since 2002. That year, there was also a playoff featuring Justin Leonard vs Heath Slocum, and 4.575 millions viewers. SBJ noted that all but one of eight events on the Tour schedule, the Sentry Tournament of Champions, has seen an increase in viewers year-over-year so far this season.
The Tour’s 2023 Wells Fargo Championship will take place May 4-7, 2023 at Quail Hole Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.
