Keegan Bradley had a 66 as well and was a shot back at Accordia Country Club, just outside of Tokyo. Andrew Putnam, an American player, was a further shot back after scoring a 68 at the PGA TOUR Japan event. Ten more players were within three to five shots of the lead in a tightly packed field. Fowler stated, “It’s been awhile since I was in this situation.” “I clearly (I) recall being in these situations before. It will be difficult tomorrow, but it won’t be easy today. Fowler was second in many majors, including the 2018 Masters. Fowler stated, “Yeah, certainly had some tough times in the last few years but I always knew that it was there.” It was always a fine line, a few shots here and there. It was nice to see the momentum build and confidence, and the ball moving in the right direction.” Saturday’s round was dry after two days of rain. Sunday will be the same. Hideki Matsuyama, the defending champion and local favorite shot a 66 to record his best round of week. He was only 10 shots behind the lead.
