PLAYA DEL CAMEN, Mexico (AP), Russell Henley made a 25-foot birdie on his first hole. He then continued to play until he shot a 6-under 65. He also doubled his lead in the World Wide Technology at Mayakoba. Henley is now at least a part of the 54-hole lead of the PGA TOUR for the sixth time. He has only converted one of his victories into a win — in 2013, in Hawaii, but he has never had a lead this big. Will Gordon bogeyed 18th hole for a 68, which tied him with Patton Kizzire who had a 67. Henley was now at 22-under 191, which is a one-shot record for his 54-hole career best. In January’s Sony Open, he shot a 192 and lost to Hideki Miatsuyama in a playoff. Henley’s impressive feat of going bogey-free was equally impressive. He is the only player left in the field to not drop a shot at El Camaleon. Henley certainly had his chances. Henley put his tee shot in the hazard at the 428-yard 2nd hole. After a penalty drop, he hit his approach to 4 feet to save Par. Henley will be looking for his fourth career win and first since 2017 Cadence Bank Houston Open. Although this round was more stressful than the first two, it felt more satisfying due to the key putts Henley made that saved par and maintained his momentum. He began with a three shot lead, and no one was able to catch him up. Sam Ryder was three back. Henley was six behind after Henley’s long birdie. To stay alive, Gordon made three consecutive birdies on the back nine. Henley stated that the score was “good, but it felt harder.” “It was my favourite of the three days because I didn’t have an easy round.” Seamus Power of Ireland had a score of 63 and was seven shots ahead. He had a hole in one on the eighth hole and didn’t get to take the stage. Greyson Sigg made an ace at the par-3 10th hole moments later, but Sigg didn’t know it. He hit 7-iron and hit it well. Sigg needed to go to the toilet so he ran to the clubhouse. Sigg stated that he couldn’t see the ball go in and no one made any reaction. I gave my club to my caddie, then I ran. As I was leaving the locker room, one of my locker room attendants said, “Great shot.” He didn’t even make it to the cup with his hole-in one. Viktor Hovland, the two-time champion, had a 66. He lost ground. He is now nine shots behind. Masters champion Scottie Scheffler shot a 68 to be in the middle of pack. He was 13 shots behind the leader and has no chance of regaining No. 1 ranking. Collin Morikawa, a two-time major champion, had a 68.
