Andrew Putnam (+170 to a Top 20)…. If your attention has been paid, you will have solid ground from which to argue his absence from the Power Rankings. However, he is only 2-for-4 at Mayakoba and has zero top 60s. A guy who has been slowing down can take a blow and he can be forgotten fast. It’s the nature of the sport. He’s connected nine paydays since he was a T11 at El Camaleon Open in July. Two of them were top five, and three others were top 25. He’s 33 years old and is a fitting model for El Camaleon. But he’s also a great ball-striker. The projection is for a personal record this week. Nick Taylor (+350 to a Top 20)…. The 34 year-old Canadian is warming up for the start of the new season. He has a T6 (Fortinet), one missed cut, and two top 25s including Sunday’s T23 in Bermuda. Although he’s a two time PGA TOUR winner, he’s kept his exempt status from 2014-15. But this surge is not typical. In fact, he has only four top 25s in his last four seasons. He has cycled through Mayakoba six previous times, four of which resulted in a payday. The only top 25 of those was a T15 in 2016. This helps to boost his confidence and help him reach for this finish. Ryan Armour… Ryan led the PGA TOUR last season in fairways hit and nearness to the hole, but he was restricted to just 19 starts because of conditional status. No biggie. Through the Korn Ferry Tour Finals, he was granted full exempt status and has a T13 on his board for the Sanderson Farms Championship. He is a 46-year-old bunter and will be among the many who lick their chops this week. When he’s eligible, he is a regular attendee. He’s now 3-for-4 in 2017, with a best-ever T21 in 2018. Tyler Duncan… Tyler Duncan looks great with his profile and even though he hasn’t had the best results, he still looks great. This week he looks even more impressive, and it is only a short course. Watch a 33-year old ball-striker dance on El Camaleon. He is 5-for-5 in the tournament, with a personal best T23 in 2020. If you can find a top-30 market for him, then go shopping. Also, he’s coming off a full-season in which he was ranked eighth in fairways hits, T11 in vicinity to the hole and 34th scrambling. Adri Arnaus… The DP World Tour was dark this week so the Spaniard had an opportunity to play Mayakoba. In 2018, he made his first of seven career PGA TOUR starts. Although he missed the cut, he was still a rookie on his home circuit. He’s currently at 27th in the DPWT rankings with this season’s final line. Six months earlier, he also won the DPWT Tour’s first ever victory. He reached the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking a month later. He is just 28 years old and speaks the Riviera Maya’s native language, so it will be a pleasant transatlantic journey. The odds were obtained on Tuesday, November 1, 2022.
