PLAYA DEL CAMEN, Mexico – Hot is hot. Seamus Power, who won the Butterfield Bermuda Championship last week, continued his excellent play at the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba. He shot an 8-under 64 in the third round to climb into the top five of the leaderboard. Confidence is an important thing in golf. Especially in wind, when you have to line up like a hazard or something similar, confidence is key. Power said that he felt two things after last week’s win: one, you feel more relaxed and two, your confidence has increased, which makes it easier to play well. An ace on the Par-3 eighth was the highlight of the round, followed by an eagle on the Par-4 11th and then a hole out birdie from the greenside bunker on 14th. Power hit a gap wedge from 138 yards for the hole-in-1 and a lob wedge for the eagle. Power laughed and said that it was his 14th ace. It was also his last TOUR ace in 2019. Funny thing is, Power didn’t feel like he was doing it well Saturday. It doesn’t matter. Power smiled. Power said, “That’s golf sometimes, hopefully some of the putts will drop tomorrow.” He credits his solid run to the five week break he took following the TOUR Championship. He said it was time for a mental as well as physical reset. It’s just a lot. Power said that last season, he felt like he played a lot more tournaments. Power said that he wouldn’t have participated in the Match Play or any of four majors at the beginning of the year. It was difficult for me to add those courses to the schedule because there are many other courses that I like. “So, I feel like a bit of an overplayer. So, five weeks was big just to…get the fun back in the game, to just get that energy back up, and to just be out on the course. Power stated that he was able achieve this and feels great. With a strong start to the PGA TOUR season Power also said he has big-picture goals including the Ryder Cup team in Italy next year. Power said, “It’s going to huge.” Power was not the only player to score an ace Saturday. Greyson Sigg had a hole in one on No. 10. Joel Dahmen nearly hit his tee ball on the par-4 17th with a driver. After his birdie-eagle shot at 300 yards on the penultimate holes, he was only two feet away, he finished birdie-eagle to shoot a 5-under-66.
