For the first time, the PGA TOUR will be heading to Delaware as the BMW Championship takes place at Wilmington Country Club. FIELD NOTES – Only the top 70 FedExCup players will be eligible to play in the BMW Championship. Scottie Scheffler was No.1 when he entered the Playoffs. FIELD NOTES: Only the top 70 in the FedExCup standings will be eligible to the BMW Championship… Scottie Scheffler, who entered the Playoffs at No. 1, is looking to rebound from a missed cut in Memphis… Past FedExCup winners Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, and Sam Burns, who each have three wins this season, are among the TOUR’s most prominent stars. They will continue their quest at Wilmington Country Club, where they will compete for the world No. 1 Scheffler; defending BMW champion and FedExCup champ Patrick Cantlay, The Open and THE PLAYERS winners Cameron Smith and Sam Burns, as well as Xander Schauffele and Xander Schauffele who have each won three times this season. Five TOUR rookies, Cameron Young, Davis Riley and Taylor Pendrith, along with Mito Pereira and Sahith Theegala, advanced to the second Playoffs event. The FedExCup standings will be finalized after the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Jude Championship. FEDEXCUP – Winner will receive 2,000 FedExCup Points. COURSE: Wilmington Country Club (South Course), par 71, 7,534 yards. Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed the course in 1959. The original Wilmington Country Club was founded in 1901. Andrew Green redesigned the course in 2021 following a tornado that ravaged the area in August 2020. The tornado swept through 300 trees in just five minutes. One of them was a 250-year old white oak. Green was able to move the 14th green by 60 yards. The tournament routing will connect the front and back nines (e.g. Nos. Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4 are the 10th, 13th and 14th holes, respectively, for members. The club originally hired Green to redesign the North Course. However, the club decided that Green would also work on the South Course in preparation for the arrival of the TOUR. In the past, the club hosted six USGA events and the 2013 Palmer Cup competition between the United States and Europe. Justin Thomas was part of that American team. STORYLINES. A dramatic cut will take place in the FedExCup field after the BMW Championship. N/A (18-HOLE) 59, Jim Furyk (2nd Round, 2013). WILMINGTONCOUNTRY CLUB: N/A LAST TIMES: Patrick Cantlay rode a hot putter in a thrilling playoff to win the 2021 BMW Championship. Cantlay finished with a 6-under-66 on Sunday. He made putts of 8 foot for par on 16, 8 foot for bogey 17 and 20 feet on the 72nd to force a playoff against DeChambeau who shot his own 66. Cantlay won 14.6 strokes on greens during the week, which was the most in a single event since 2004 when that statistic was introduced. They finished 27 under. DeChambeau became the first TOUR golfer to score 261 and not win a title. Cantlay and DeChambeau had matching pars on the first four playoff holes, before DeChambeau scored birdies on the par-3 17, the fifth playoff hole. DeChambeau missed a 12-foot birdie attempt on 18 but had a chance at winning in regulation. DeChambeau had three more birdie attempts in the playoff but failed them all. Cantlay scored an 18-foot birdie on his sixth playoff hole to win. Through Sunday, it was a two-horse race. Sungjae Im was fourth and four shots away from the playoff.
