Tiger Woods hinted that he might extend his golf career after he turns 50. Tiger Woods’ words have never been stronger than Jack Nicklaus’s, who is the man Tiger wants to chase when it comes major championships.
Nicklaus was Nick Faldo’s guest when he began to talk about Tiger using a cart for his physical limitations.
“I told him, Tiger, you’re eligible for a cart,” Nicklaus, a North Palm Beach resident said on Faldo’s podcast. He said, “I’m not going do that.”
Nicklaus continued: “He said, “When I get to senior tour, it will be.”
Faldo asked him, “He actually thinks he’d come back out at fifty?”
Nicklaus said: “He wants the senior tour.”
Tour Champions players can use a cart. Players on the PGA Tour who have a disability must request to ride during a competitive round. Woods could certainly do this now, but he declines.
Woods is 47. Woods will turn 50 on December 30, 2025, and he becomes eligible to join the Tour Champions. He has proven that he can still swing the club despite multiple back surgeries and an almost fatal car accident.
It has been a challenge to bounce back from the injuries, particularly the two-year-old accident in L.A. that left him with two broken legs and an injured ankle. Tiger has been trying to walk five rounds, including one practice, in as little as five days since the accident.
Jupiter Island resident, has participated in four events over the past year: the Masters, PGA Championship, Open Championship in 2022 and the Genesis Invitational in last month.
Tiger missed the cut at the Open Championship in July. He withdrew from the PGA Championship after three rounds, and was visibly limping and in pain. He then played all four rounds of the Masters and Genesis.
In the Masters, he shot a pair 78s in the final two rounds. He shot a strong third round at Riviera (67), before carding a final-day 73.
After finishing in 45th place at Genesis, Woods stated that “it certainly was a bit more difficult than what I probably thought”. My team has done a great job in helping me get my body back on track and getting me ready for each day.
“This is the hardest part I can’t replicate at home. Even though I did it for four days, it was not adrenaline. It’s not the exact same as adrenaline. Although I can simulate it at home, it isn’t the same as actually being there and experiencing it.
In three weeks, Tiger will play in the Masters. He trails Nicklaus’ record of 18 major titles. He is tied for second with Sam Snead’s 82 career PGA Tour wins.
