ST. ANDREWS (Scotland) – Tiger Woods was overcome with emotion as he walked down the 18th green at St. Andrews’ Old Course. Woods shot rounds of 78-75 in the first two rounds at the 150th Open Championship. But it was his realization that it might be his last competitive round at home golf course that sent the 15-time major winner wild. It’s very personal for me. Since 1995, I have been coming here. The next one will be in 2030, so I don’t know when I will be able to compete. It felt to me like this may have been my last British Open at St. Andrews,” Woods stated post-round after receiving a standing ovation. It was an incredible feeling to be surrounded by fans, ovations, and warmth. I can understand the pain Jack and Arnold went through. It was something I felt at the end. They understand the game of golf and what it takes for an Open champion. This is the second time I have been able to win this event. “… I feel like my ability to play future British Opens is good, but I don’t know if it will allow me to play for as long as I want to when it comes back around. Collin Morikawa, the defending champion, joined Woods to finish up just a few days earlier than he had planned. A 72-hole opening was followed by a 73, one less than the pace of the others on the weekend. Max Homa was able to fulfill a childhood dream and play with Woods, but Homa is heading home early just like his idol. After rounds of 73-72, the two-time champion this season was also eliminated. Three past champions in their 50s missed the cut. Padraig Harrington finished his first round 69 with two birdies on Friday’s first two holes to reach 5 under. He shot 78 despite having eight bogeys, and no birdies throughout the round. John Daly was even par on Friday’s front nine, shooting 1 under, with an eagle on his par-5 fifth hole. To finish at 3 over, he bogeyed the last three holes. Ernie Els finished at 5 under for the first 15 holes, but he missed his Road Hole tee shot. He was on his way to a round 70. To shoot 73, he missed by one after a fractionally missed birdie attempt on the 18th hole. Brooks Koepka missed making the cut after shooting 73 to 75. Brooks Koepka missed two cuts and had two T55s in majors, snapping a streak that spanned eight years of at least one top-10 in majors. Phil Mickelson missed the cut as a result of a round 77 that left him at 5 over. Zach Johnson, the winner of the Open Championship at St. Andrews in 2010, missed the cut, shooting 72-75, while the two other players he beat that year in a playoff also missed the cut. Marc Leishman was struggling with 76-74, while Louis Oosthuizen (2010 winner at the Old Course) shot 71-74, missing the cut by one.
