Since 1897, men’s college golf has produced national champions.
From 1897-1938, the Intercollegiate Golf Association (later renamed the National Intercollegiate Golf Association) sponsored the season’s end tournament.
Yale dominated the NIGA from 1897-1936. They won nine consecutive titles between 1905-1913. The Bulldogs won their only NCAA Championship in 1943. Princeton, the Ivy League rival, has 11 NIGA championships of its own. They dominated the 1920s. A single NCAA championship (1940) is all they have. Harvard won six titles in seven years between 1898 and 1904, while Michigan won consecutive championships in 1934-35.
Since 1939, when the NCAA took over the responsibility, it has lasted 81 years. Thirty colleges have won NCAA championships, with 15 of them being multi-time winners. This begs the questions: who has the most?
