When talking about the next generation of global golf stars, don’t forget to mention Taiga Semikawa.
Are you unfamiliar with this name? You should. The Japan Open was won by a 21-year-old Japanese college student. He shot a round-three 63 to win the tournament. Former World No. Former World No. 1 and Masters champion Adam Scott tied for sixth.
Semikawa won his third consecutive victory in these three races. He rose to No. He rose to No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking one week after defeating the pros at the Panasonic Open Golf Championship (JGTO). This makes him the fourth Japanese golfer who has reached the No. Hideki Matsuyama and Takumi Kanaya were followed by Keita Nakajima in the WAGR.
Wait! There’s more! Semikawa’s victory at the Panasonic Open made him the sixth amateur to win the JGTO. He rose to 522nd in the Official World Golf Ranking from 896th.
Taiga Semikawa (21 years old) has won the Japan Open in a field which included Adam Scott. This is his third professional title. The men’s game in Asia is poised to reach a golden age and imitate the women’s. It’s great to see!

Semikawa is a sure bet that he will soon make the transition to the professional ranks. According to the Japan Golf Association Semikawa plans to become a pro at the Visa Taiheiyo Championship on November 10, one of the most important events on the JGTO.
