A Historic Achievement
Just a day after Cristobal Del Solar made history by becoming the first golfer to shoot 57 in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event, 19-year-old Adrich Potgieter has also etched his name in the record books. Potgieter, fresh off his victory at the Korn Ferry Tour’s Bahamas Great Abaco Classic, achieved the 10th sub-60 round in Korn Ferry Tour history with an impressive 11-under 59 during the second round of the Astara Golf Championship at the Pacos Course at Country Club de Bogata in Colombia.
A Remarkable Feat by a Young Talent
What makes Potgieter’s achievement even more extraordinary is that he is now the youngest player to shoot 59 in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event. The Pacos Course, known for being the shortest on the Korn Ferry Tour at 6,254 yards and located nearly 9,000 feet above sea level, presented its own set of challenges with narrow fairways and tricky greens. Prior to Potgieter’s round, no player had ever scored below 60 on this course.
A Stellar Performance
Potgieter began his round with a scorching 7-under 28 on the back nine of the Pacos Course. He then continued his impressive play on the front nine, adding five more birdies, including three consecutive ones on his final three holes, to secure his remarkable score of 59. His round featured ten birdies, one eagle, and even a bogey, but it was enough to solidify his place in history as the 10th player to achieve a sub-60 round in Korn Ferry Tour history.
Two Sub-60 Scores in One Event
Notably, Potgieter’s achievement comes just a day after Cristobal Del Solar’s record-breaking round. This marks the first time in PGA Tour-sanctioned event history that two players have shot sub-60 scores during the same tournament. Potgieter currently leads the Astara Golf Championship at 16-under 125 after two rounds, with Del Solar trailing by one shot after a solid 2-under 69 on the Lagos Course.
Next Challenges Await
The tournament will continue at the Lagos Course for the remaining rounds, a challenging par-71 layout that spans 7,237 yards. As Potgieter and Del Solar battle it out for the title, golf enthusiasts eagerly anticipate witnessing more exceptional performances in this highly competitive event.
