The LIV Golf Invitational Series added three new players to its already impressive team over the past week. The Greg Norman-led, Saudi Arabia-funded series is closing in on a beloved broadcaster.
Charles Barkley, a 11-time NBA All-Star who is currently TNT analyst, stated that he would “kill a relative for $200 million” in regard to the reported deals PGA Tour players received for signing up for LIV Golf. Barkley said last week that he would meet with LIV, and that he will be playing in the pro-am next week at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster.
According to the Post Barkley and Norman had dinner at a restaurant in Atlanta on Wednesday night, and discussed their roles with LIV. LIV’s current broadcast is only available online. It features former voice of the Premier League for NBC Arlo, who is making his debut as a golf announcer. Dom Boulet and Jerry Foltz, former Golf Channel analyst, are also present in the booth.
LIV Golf has been long criticized for being a way for Saudi Arabia to sportwash its human rights record. There are 54-hole events, guaranteed money, and no cuts for 48 players. Some deals can even exceed $100 million.
