NORTH PLAINS. — Bryson de Chambeau has seen and heard the criticisms he and his competitors received for participating in the controversial LIV Golf Invitational Series, which is backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. He said that he respected those comments.
After Tuesday’s press conference at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club ahead of LIV Portland, he is done talking about it.
“I can understand other people’s decisions regarding their comments and such. As it pertains to me, however, I have made that decision in my own, as my own decision. I won’t go into detail about that. It’s not necessary. DeChambeau said that golfers are at the end of each day. He believes everyone has a right to their opinion. “That’s what people should hopefully get out of me is that I respect it. But golf is a force for good and I believe that people will start to see the good in them and what they’re trying to do rather than focusing on the past.
“I believe it is important to learn from the past and move on. Continuing to look forward in a positive way is something that could be a force of good for the future.
DeChambeau, along with fellow LIV Golf debutants Matthew Wolff, and Abraham Ancer, concluded the press conference by saying that “Looking ahead is the most important thing you can do regarding this game of golf.”
DeChambeau is adamant that he wants to return to sport and get rid of the negative vibes surrounding Greg Norman’s upstart circuit. When asked why they joined LIV Golf, however, the sport was not mentioned. There were many other opportunities than golf, such as business and family.
“It was a personal decision for me. DeChambeau explained that I operate and manage my golf business as well as trying to be the best player in the world. It was going to give you more resources and opportunities to invest in your local community in Dallas and back in California. I can also do things for junior golf tours and improve my foundation. I also have the opportunity to build the multi-sport complex here in Dallas. I also have more time to rest and recover my body the way that I want. This will allow me to be ready to give my best every week, not being depleted.
“And the final part is that I saw the first London event and how much fun everyone was having. It was very exciting for me. It was exciting to me.
