LIV Golf is reportedly continuing its sign spree with Matthew Wolff and Carlos Ortiz expected to join upstart circuit at Pumpkin Ridge in Portland.
LIV Golf had previously announced 45 players to its 48-man field for the second of eight scheduled events in the series.
Wolff, 23 years old, won the 2019 NCAA Championship individual title as a sophomore at Oklahoma State. He turned professional in June and won the PGA Tour 3M Open in his third event. Wolff, who was playing as a sponsor’s exempt, made a 25-foot putt from the fringe of the last hole to edge Collin Morikawa and Bryson DeChambeau. Wolff showed even more potential when he finished fourth at 2020 PGA Championship. He also shot 65 at Winged Foot during the third round U.S. Open later in the year to take the 54-hole lead. He was second to DeChambeau, and rose to No. 12 in the Official World Golf Ranking.
His unorthodox swing and charismatic personality made him look like he was on the cusp of becoming the Tour’s next big star. Wolff had difficulty adjusting to Tour life last year and took two months off golf to focus on his mental health. Wolff is now 77 , the lowest ranking in the world, having missed the cut in seven of 12 starts this season. On Sunday, he shot 66 at the Travelers Championship. He made his professional PGA Tour debut in 2019 and was T-55.
The Telegraph of London first reported Wolff’s leap to LIV. Rumours of Wolff’s jump to LIV have been around for several weeks. This was especially after his image appeared in a LIV Golf sizzle reel that promoted the fledgling circuit, which is supported by Saudi Arabia’s PIF Investment Fund.
Sports Illustrated reported that Carlos Ortiz, a Mexican golfer, has also decided to join LIV Golf. Ortiz, 31, won the 2020 Houston Open. He is No. He is ranked No.119 in the world. Mexico’s number one player Abe Ancer made the leap to LIV last week, giving the circuit a viable Latin American presence.
Golfweek reported that Chacarra is the No. According to reports, Chacarra, the No. 2 amateur in the world was signed with LIV. He planned to skip his senior year at Oklahoma State to become a professional to play in the Portland 48-man field. He wrote in Spanish and said that he had been offered the opportunity to compete in the 48-man field in Portland.
