WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — Adam Scott felt he had been playing well enough to see some improvement in his scores. It seems that this moment has come at the perfect time. FedExCup update: Scheffler trends back to top spot Scott put together another tidy round Friday except for one hole — a double bogey on the 17th — for a 2-under 69 that gave him a one-shot lead going into the weekend at the BMW Championship. Masters champion Scottie Scheffler opened his round with three straight birdies, before cooling for 67. Jordan Spieth’s hopes of a bogey free round were cut short when his tee shot hit the sticky fairway instead of the fairway. He finished with a score of 67 after his bogey. They were just one shot behind Cameron Young (68) or Corey Conners (67) Scott, at 8-under, 134, was unsure how much August golf would bring. He was No. He was ranked No.77 in the FedExCup. However, he wasn’t certain he would make it to the BMW Championship. A tie for fifth in the FedExCup Playoffs opener last week made him the FedExCup Playoffs winner. He was able to generate enough excitement to now aim to be one of the top 30 players to make it to Atlanta next week for the FedExCup Finale. “I am in great shape heading into the weekend. Scott stated that he doesn’t remember when he last led a tournament. In 2020, he won at Riviera. His last 36-hole lead came at Doral in 2016 for the World Golf Championship, which he won. “I haven’t had my best stuff in quite some time. He said it was a difficult battle. “But that’s the way this game is. “I’d like to make the best of this position now over 36 holes.” A quick glance behind him would remind him that it won’t easy. The Australian is well aware of this. Spieth looked solid for two days at Wilmington Country Club with just one bogey. Spieth missed the cut last week, and believes his postseason didn’t begin until Monday when he arrived in Wilmington. It’s more than trying to forget a bad memory. After The Open, Spieth went to Baja California to take a rest before the final hectic round of the season. There was one problem. He returned to Dallas and discovered that all the courses he played were closed. His only option was to hit from a stall at a practice facility. He realized that his swing was on vacation and that his coach was not available until he arrived in Tennessee. It was a quick turnaround. Spieth stated that he feels like he’s doing everything right, not something extraordinary, but that he felt like his game was trending and improving and that a lot of people know how to improve it. It feels great. It’s a great opportunity to have a lot trust and focus on the tournament. He opened with three birdies and didn’t make many mistakes throughout the round. Scott will join him in the final group on Saturday. Conner is No. Conner is 29 and is in an excellent position to defend his position for East Lake. Young is a great player every week, winning twice in majors and five runner up finishes for the season. Young would be able to tick off many of his goals if he wins. Xander Schauffele won with a wedge on 17th hole for an eagle, and a 69. He was two shots behind Rory McIlroy and Patrick Cantlay, the defending champion. Rory also chipped in for birdie on his last hole for another 68. Scott did not get a great finish. Scott was enjoying a sunny afternoon sailing by when he pulled his tee shot towards a tree. Although the lie was clear, his shot towards the fairway got hung up in rough. He didn’t get to the green, or even up-and-down from there. This resulted in a double bogey. Scott stated, “It’s an important reminder for the weekend that it’s really got to be under control and don’t want too many get off of the map and get out position around here.”
