A Terrifying Wake-Up Call
Just days before Christmas, Gerald and Marci Knight, owners of the Dream Valley Golf Course in Missouri, experienced a terrifying incident. Marci, a light sleeper, woke up to a loud bang, fearing that their children were in trouble. Instead, she saw a red glow outside their window, indicating a fire at their golf course.
The Devastating Aftermath
The fire, which occurred on December 22, caused significant damage to the golf course. The cart barn, along with more than 50 carts and various equipment in the maintenance area, were completely destroyed. The flames also engulfed the newly constructed pro shop, which was still in the framing stage.
A Setback for the Ownership Group
Gerald Knight and his business partners, Ryan and Dara Knight, purchased the 18-hole course in April 2019. Despite the setback, the ownership group has been successful in running the golf course, offering affordable prices to attract local golfers. The group had big plans for the Christmas holiday weekend, but the fire forced them to rely on replacement carts provided by a local distributor.
A Silver Lining
Although the fire has caused a setback for the Knight family and their partners, they are grateful that the situation wasn’t worse. Their house narrowly avoided catching fire, thanks to a heavy south wind. The insurance settlement will help them rebuild and get back to normal operations. Despite this major setback, the golf course has been thriving under their ownership, and they remain optimistic about the future.
