Background
A small city located near Savannah, Georgia, has taken decisive action by terminating its golf course superintendent following the revelation of a murder-for-hire scheme. The scandal stemmed from a longstanding dispute over a $20 million family estate, contributing to Jim Roy Watkins Jr.’s decision to allegedly hire an individual to assassinate his own brother. According to a report by Georgia TV station WJCL-TV, Watkins purportedly attempted to pay $100,000 to carry out this heinous act. The Florida Department of Corrections verified Watkins’ involvement in the plot and stated that he served less than two years of a six-year sentence. Remarkably, Watkins was released from prison as recently as June 2016. Astonishingly, Rincon, Georgia, subsequently employed him as their golf superintendent just six years later in June 2022.
An Alarming Discovery
This shocking revelation came to light when a concerned citizen in the local community submitted an open records request. Upon thorough examination, the citizen unearthed Watkins’ disturbing past and promptly alerted the city council. Consequently, the council released a statement emphasizing their commitment to establishing an enhanced policy regarding background checks for all individuals associated with the city.
