PONTE VEDRA BAY, Florida – Today the PGA TOUR announced that Joohyung Kim (Tom) has accepted special temporary membership for the rest of the 2021-22 PGA TOUR Season. Kim, a South Korean native, is now eligible to receive unlimited sponsor exemptions during the remaining season while he tries to earn his PGA TOUR card in the 2022-23 season. Kim said that he worked hard to reach this point and that he still has a lot of work to do to achieve full PGA TOUR status in 2023. Kim is currently No. Kim is currently No. 40 in the Official World Golf Ranking. He has made six starts on this season’s PGA TOUR, including a third-place finish during the Genesis Scottish Open. Additional top-25s were recorded at the AT&T Byron Nelson, (T17), and U.S. Open (23rd). Kim reached the threshold of Special Temporary membership with a tie for 47th place at the Open Championship. He also accumulated as many points as possible through the FedExCup points lists for non-members this season as No. 150 on the 2020-21 FedExCup standings (287). Kim must earn at least the same number of non-member FedExCup point as the last eligible player in the 2021-22 FedExCup standings in order to be granted full status on the PGA TOUR. This will allow her to qualify for the 2022 FedExCup Playoffs. Kim currently holds 296 points. This would be between Nos. The FedExCup standings currently have 131 and 132. Kim, 20 years old, is the youngest player to join TOUR as Special Temporary Members since Joaquin Niemann, who did it as a 19 year-old during 2017-18. He has seven international wins to his credit, with two victories on the Asian Tour and Korean Tour respectively and three on Asian Development Tour. He was the leader of the Genesis points on the Korean Tour, and he won the Asian Tour Order of Merit 2021. Kim has moved up from No. 152 to No. In that time, 40 were in the Official World Golf Ranking. The FedExCup Playoffs are not open to Special Temporary members. However, any non-members or Special Temporary members who win an official event during the season and become regular PGA TOUR member will be added to the FedExCup point list along with any FedExCup Points earned as a nonmember (exclusions being World Golf Championships events and the Barracuda Championship) and be eligible for eligibility for the FedExCup Playoffs.
