RIDGELAND (S.C.) – Jordan Spieth was the worst person in foursome during a week at home in Dallas.
It wasn’t golf, it was a doubles pickleball match with Scottie Scheffler, a three-time major winner who is also a former World No. 1. – It was a doubles pickleball match, with Scottie Scheffler, in the Celebrity Battle of the Paddle event in Frisco. John Isner and Dirk Nowitzki, a former Dallas Mavericks player, were the PGA stars.
“It was a very strange feeling going infront of a large crowd knowing that you were the worst player on the court, which I didn’t enjoy at all,” Spieth said. He noted that Scheffler plays pickleball (a combination of tennis and Ping-Pong) almost every day, but he had only played less than ten times. “I can be in front of a crowd as long as I practice and know what I’m going do. Although I would not say I am bad, when there are 500 people in the crowd, it’s hard to enjoy the experience.
CJ Cup – Best bets
Spieth made it clear that he shared a conversation with Michael Greller, his caddie, and made a subtle dig at Greller’s golf skills.
“So I asked Michael, what’s it like to hit shots at 17 at Sawgrass or 16 in Phoenix? It’s like this, I think. He says, “Yeah.” He then adds, “That’s why either I hit it really close or miss the green.”
Spieth’s game is trending in the right direction, and he will make his season debut at Congaree Golf Club in South Carolina for the CJ Cup. Spieth won the Presidents Cup with Team USA in a perfect 5-1, which included his first win in singles at the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. He was previously a combined 6-1-1. Spieth, who was a mere hour away from winning the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head Island in April, is now No. Spieth, who is ranked 13th in the world, stated that he finds more joy in the actual work of improving than in the past. However, he acknowledged that he still has a lot to do to reach his lofty career goals.
“I was inconsistent this year. This was the last season. Although I didn’t have a great season in putting, I felt that my ball-striking was more inconsistent than previous years. I knew why, but it took me a few weeks to figure out. He explained that he started to work after East Lake, and tried to do well in the pre-Presidents Cup. “Then, over the next week, things started to click a bit.”
He said, “Over the past couple of years, I have really enjoyed it, really enjoyed working more than ever.” I find that I enjoy my day-to day work more. I feel like I can finally get to the place where I feel free and have the feeling of being able to say, “Man, I’m going there!”. Then I’ll strip it all day. That’s the kind of excitement I find in the work. It’s the difference I notice the most from my rookie year to the time I was struggling. I appreciate the work I do and try to make the most of the time I have. I enjoy the process more than the benefits of winning a tournament.
Spieth stated that he will play a restricted schedule in the fall. He has already committed to the Hero World Challenge, PNC Championship and PNC Championship in December. However, he chose to play the CJ Cup to help jumpstart his 2022-23 season.
He said that he didn’t want to be a complete loser like he was the last two years in Kapalua (Sentry Tournament of Champions), so it would be nice to have a strong start and finish here, as this FedEx Cup event is the only one I can play this fall.
