SAN DIEGO — Max Homa, a Southern California native, won the Farmers Insurance Open by two shots over Keegan Bradley. The win was five shots short of the lead. Jon Rahm collapsed early and missed a chance at winning his third consecutive start. The world’s No. 1. Sam Ryder was trying to win a wire-towire victory, but Homa pulled it off and held off Bradley Morikawa and Collin Morikawa for his sixth PGA TOUR victory and fourth in his state. In 2021, he won The Genesis Invitational at Riviera and the Fortinet Championships in Napa in consecutive year. Homa finished at 13-under 257 with a 6-under 65. He made a 4-foot birdie putt on No. 18 and then pumped his right hand before greeting Lacey and her infant son Cam on the green. Bradley also scored a 66 on South Course. Morikawa finished at 10 under with a score of 69. Ryder shot 75, his worst round, and tied for fourth at 9 under with Sahith (70), and Sungjae (70). Rahm shot a 74 and tied for seventh at 8 over with Jason Day (68), who is a two-time Farmers champion. Rahm won his first PGA TOUR victory here in 2017, and then won in 2021 the U.S. Open at the municipal course overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Rahm won The American Express at PGA West and the Sentry Tournament of Champions at Kapalua last weekend. Homa, who was playing in the group ahead Ryder, Rahm, and Tony Finau, took control at 12 under. She made a 16-foot birdie putt from the par-3 16th green after a 226 yard tee shot. Ryder dropped to 10 under with a double-bogey six on the 15th. Ryder, who had eagled his opening hole, was tied for first place after the first round. He held sole possession of first after the second and three-round rounds. Rahm missed the par on No. 1 after a remarkable climb up the leaderboard to take sole possession of second, two shots behind Ryder. Rahm missed No. 1’s birdie putt, and he was inches away from No. Before his round collapsed on the par-4 No. 4, he had already played 4. 5. Rahm drove into a fairway bunker, then flew the green through the thick rough. He had to take three shots to cut his way through the rough, and by the time that he putted a nine-footer, he was tied for fifth.
