Golf fans got a stunning 15-minute TV show on Friday thanks to CBS and Max Homa.
Homa was able to be interviewed by CBS during the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, California’s third round. He spoke on the par-5 hole. Homa was fourth at 7 under at the time and spoke to CBS analysts Trevor Immelman and Ian Baker-Finch about how to play the hole. Conversations covered everything from shot strategy to course management and everything in between.
Homa inserted an AirPod into his left ear and the announcers started talking to him while he walked towards his ball on the fairway. Homa talked about his shot off the tee, and how the wind would take it to where it needed.

He was also asked how he would decide whether to lay up or go for the green in 2 and what factors would impact his decision.
Homa decided that he would go for it in two and pulled his ball away, claiming that he hit the toe. Homa called the rules official after his ball got embedded on the green. He received a free shot. His second shot was above the bunker in front of the green.
Homa laughed when he walked to the green, “I’m certain this is just a peachof a lie,” he joked. He got his ball. “I won’t touch it.”
Homa dropped his ball for his third shot and continued to make jokes.
Standing on top of the hill, he declared “I’m exhausted.”
His third shot hit the green and he par-putted. Before hitting his putts, Homa removed the AirPod from his ear.
Homa is well-known for his sense of humor and being one of the most followed Twitter users. However, his personality was very evident when he was mic’ed up. He was engaging and witty, but he didn’t hesitate to share what he thought in the middle of round.
Although players have used mics in previous editions of The Match and in competition settings like the PGA Tour, they were never worn in a competition setting.
This was a great experience. We were prepared by The Match. Bravo to Homa, CBS and all the crew at CBS for creating something fresh that was entertaining for the TV audience.
