This year has been a rollercoaster for Nelly Korda, which is also a description of how she won the Pelican LPGA Championship last year. After making a terrible triple bogey on Sunday’s penultimate hole, Korda won in a playoff against Lydia Ko, Sei Young Kim and Lexi Thompson.
Korda won the fourth LPGA title with the Pelican, making her the most decorated American player after Stacy Lewis in 2012. After a blood clot in her left arm, her 2022 season was stopped abruptly. In spring, she had surgery and was unable to compete for four months.
Korda said, “I have played some solid golf since returning,” but “but I’ve also overdoned it and played some poor golf.”
This week’s rollercoaster ride continues as Tropical Storm Nicole forced officials to reduce the Pelican Women’s Championship to 54 holes. The forecast calls for rain of one to three inches and strong winds gusting up to 50 mph. Schools have been closed by local authorities. Bridges may also be closed.

Friday morning’s forecast for Friday includes the possibility of a lingering storm.
Korda said that schedule disruptions could be a possibility because “it’s the same for everybody.”
Korda won her only win of the year in August at Sotogrande, Spain’s Ladies European Tour’s Aramco Team Series. She finished second at the Meijer LPGA Classic and the CP Women’s Open, but she missed the cut in both of her previous starts.
Although Korda hasn’t played in an LPGA event in September, she finished fourth in the Aramco Team Series in New York.
Korda said that she felt like she missed so much of the year and wanted to make up for it in a way. She said that she shouldn’t have played in Arkansas or Texas.
“I’m still learning, as I said, about my body and golf. Once you think you’re good at it, it makes it seem like you’re back in reality.”
Current No. 4. In the world, Korda stated that she spends a lot of her time away on the tour making decisions for the new home that she is building near Bradenton, Florida.
Korda said that decision-making is so stressful. “I hate it. It is a horrible thing. It’s a great help to me. This is it, all you. As if I can’t see through so many pieces of furniture. It’s like I can’t do it.
This week, 120 players are in the Pelican field. Much is at stake as players try to qualify for the CME Group Tour Championship (top-60) and keep their full status on tour (top100).
Minjee Lee is just one point ahead of Lydia Ko in the Rolex Player Of The Year race. She is also the Vare Trophy leader for lowest average scoring. This week, neither Lee nor Atthaya Thitikul, who are both top-ranked, are in the field. Hye-Jin Choi had to win this week in order to beat Thitikul for the Louise Suggs rookie of the year race. Choi pulled out of the field earlier in this week. Choi did not give a reason.
