The 2023 LIV Golf Team Championship, a well-anticipated sporting event, is shifting its game format from match play to stroke play for the closing round. After two days of engaging match play, this change is set to take the championship to a new level of excitement.
Final Round of the $50 Million Championship
The championship had an impressive start at Trump National Doral’s Blue Monster course with twelve teams competing for the $50 million season finale. However, the real thrill begins as only four teams remain to battle it out in the final round. While all twelve teams will return to the greens on Sunday, only the semifinal winners – 4Aces GC, Crushers GC, RangeGoats GC, and Torque GC – will vie for the staggering $14 million top prize.
The Game-Changing Shift to Stroke Play
Players must adapt to a new format for the championship’s final round. As Johnson, a notable player, put it, “The game is still golf. The switch from match to stroke play means there’s no room for error – a bad shot can’t just be picked up. It demands consistent, solid play from all four team members if they aim to triumph. It’s a team effort, and we’re all in it for the trophy.”
The Race for the Remaining Positions
Teams that didn’t make the cut on Saturday, including Cleeks GC, will fight it out for ranks 5 to 8. Meanwhile, the quarterfinal losers from Friday, such as Iron Heads GC, Majesticks GC, Ripper GC, and Smash GC, will contend for the 9th to 12th spots. Despite not making it to the final competition for the top prize, these teams still have a lot to play for.
DeChambeau’s View on the Championship’s Shift
DeChambeau, a member of the Crushers team, sees the shift as a significant opportunity. He said, “We left on a bitter note last year, but this year is a different story. Our team has upped its game, and I feel my performance has improved as well. We’ve prepared for this moment all year, and tomorrow, we hope to display our skills and seize the opportunity to win.”
Details of the Final Round
All 48 players will play 18 holes of shotgun start stroke play, with the scores of all four team members contributing to the final team score. The action can be followed from 1-6 p.m. ET either on the CW channel or streamed on the CW app or LIV Golf app.
With the transition to stroke play in the final round of the 2023 LIV Golf Team Championship, the excitement is palpable. It’s a shift that promises to test the skills of the teams in a new way and adds an extra layer of suspense to the championship.
