Michael Block, 46, is a PGA of America pro and head professional at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club, Mission Viejo in California. He is the talk of Oak Hill Country Club this week and one of most popular players at the 2023 PGA Championship.
Block, the only PGA of America pro to make the Friday cut, was already a story. But after shooting a third consecutive round of 70 he finished just six shots off the leader Brooks Koepka and will play Sunday with Rory McIlroy.
Block wore on Friday a hat with the word “RAW” written on it. Many people do not know what this means.
RAW is the raw steel finish on the TaylorMade MG3 wedges. Some brands offer un-chromed raw versions of irons or wedges, which will rust with time and moisture. The MG3 wedges come with a raw steel surface, but a sticker covers it so that nothing rusts before the clubs are bought.
TaylorMade’s staff professionals wore RAW hats to promote the clubs shortly after they were released on August 20, 2021. The hats are now available for purchase through the company website. Teaching professionals such as Block are often given promotional items, including hats and towels. Bluetooth speakers, headcovers, and Bluetooth speakers, are also common.
You’re outta luck if you want a RAW cap. TaylorMade and other golf retailers list them as sold out. Golfweek contacted TaylorMade representatives, but no news was received.
