Three players from the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Series applied for a temporary restraining or that would have allowed them compete in the FedExCup Playoffs. However, Jay Monahan, PGA TOUR Commissioner, wrote that the TOUR members were able to focus on the conclusion of a thrilling season. Jay Monahan also sent a memo on Tuesday evening. The three suspended players sought a temporary restraining or to allow them to return to TOUR for the FedEx St. Jude Championship, but Judge Beth Labson Freeman of U.S. District Court in the Northern District of California denied their request. “With today’s news, our players can now focus on the most important thing over the next three week: The FedExCup Playoffs will see the best players from around the world compete. This caps an incredible season with the crowning the FedExCup Champion at the TOUR Championship,” Commissioner Monahan wrote. After breakout seasons, this season has seen new stars emerge like Scottie Scheffler and Cameron Smith, who are currently at the top of the FedExCup standings. Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas have added wins to their impressive resumes, while rookies like Sahith theegala, Davis Riley, and Cameron Young have proven themselves to be stars. The FedExCup Playoffs start Thursday at TPC Southwind with the FedEx St. Jude Championship, followed by the next week’s BMW Championship at Wilmington Country Club. On August 25-28, the FedEx Cup will be up for grabs at East Lake Golf Club, Atlanta.
