PONTE VEDRA BEACH (Florida) – PGA TOUR University presented By Velocity Global has increased the performance benefits offered to college seniors. This is in advance of the third season. The changes are effective for the Class 2023 and will further elevate the pathway to the PGA TOUR in elite college golfers. This path was the one that led to Kevin Yu, Trevor Werbylo, and Davis Thompson earning their PGA TOUR cards for 2022-23. Brendan von Doehren (PGA TOUR University Executive director) said that PGA TOUR University players are ready to compete as soon as they turn professional. These additional benefits are part the process of growing PGA TOUR University. Five more players – now a total of 20 – will earn benefits based on their finish in the final Velocity Global Ranking. Players who finish 6th-10th in the final Velocity Global Ranking will be eligible for conditional Korn Ferry Tour membership. See below for Korn Ferry Tour Access. * PGA TOUR U First Team (1st-5th). – Exempted on Korn Ferry Tour for current season, and exempted on a PGA TOUR International Tour in the following season. * PGA TOUR U Second Team (6th-10th), – Conditional member of Korn Ferry Tour for current season. Exempted on PGA TOUR Canada and PGA TOUR Latinoamerica for the next season. * PGA TOURU Third Team (11th-20th), – Exempt from PGA TOUR Canada and PGA TOUR Latinoamerica for the current season. The top-10 players from the final Velocity Global Ranking will be eligible to play out of the PGA TOUR University category (5 spots) on Korn Ferry Tour. The player’s position in the Velocity global Ranking determines his priority. Players finishing Nos. Players finishing Nos. 1-5 are exempt members. 6-10 being conditional members. Previously, Korn Ferry Tour membership was limited to the top five players. Only then could they play in the PGA TOUR University category. These benefits become more significant, as the top-five finishers (and ties) at Q-School Finals in 2023 will earn PGA TOUR status for the 2024 season. During the season of their last year in PGA TOUR University, the top-20 finishers in the Velocity Global Ranking will compete against each other for future eligibility. For the next season, the Korn Ferry Tour will exempt the three players who have the highest combined points totals in events played on both the PGA TOUR and Korn Ferry Tour seasons (“PGA TOUR University Total Points”). The Class of 2023 will compete for PGA TOUR University Total points. Fred Biondi, Florida’s top player in the pre-season Velocity global Ranking, is followed by Sam Bennett (Texas A&M), Austin Greaser(North Carolina), and Travis Vick. To be eligible for the Velocity Global Ranking, players must enroll at PGA TOUR University. The player registration is now open. The complete Class of 2023 Rankings will be available September 7.
