We’re sorry, but if last week was a busy week for you, this week will be a little more difficult. The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am brings the PGA TOUR back to its regular Thursday starts and Sunday finishes. Five things to know That said, the only thing about this tournament that’s routine is the familiar slot on the weekly calendar. Pebble Beach is the backdrop, the three-track format and the special cut offer something for everyone. Below are all details. POWER RANKINGS AT&T PEBBLE Beach PRO-AM Draws & Fades now has a new name – Golfbet Insider. (See my schedule below.) Webb Simpson and Kevin Kisner will be the featured reviewers at this week’s debut. Jimmy Walker also will be there. We’re now at the final tournament, which will be played across multiple courses. Four events, including the RSM Classic, have spilled onto additional stages since the end of the 2022-23 fall section. These latitudes in Northern Hemisphere do not have a lot of daylight hours, so accommodations are required to allow for exempt status players. These playing opportunities are essential and valuable, with Korn Ferry Tour graduates who are more well-situated waiting to be allowed into the field until May fields are full. All 156 players on the Monterey Peninsula get one shot at the host course, as well as each of its two assistants, Spyglass Hill Golf Course or Monterey Peninsula Country Club’s Shore Course. Pebble and Spy are par 72s. MPCC, on the other hand, is a par 70 with five par 3s and 4 par 5s. The respective nines of each are 34 and 37. After three rounds have been completed, ties and low 60s will be cut to advance to the final round at Pebble. However, the low 65 and tie will each receive FedExCup points as well as official prize money. For those who finish between 61st and 65th, they will be given the “Made cut but didn’t finish” tag. This is a unique tournament cut. Even if the individual pro didn’t make it to the final round, the 25 lowest pro-am teams will be allowed to tee up in the finale. It can be difficult to believe that this tournament will go ahead when the weather cooperates. The alternative is the expectation for The Open Championship or the afternoon boomers at the Florida Swing. Fortunately(! Rain is unlikely, but it will be a rare occurrence. The daytime highs may not reach 60 degrees. Naturally, wind is also a concern. This is true everywhere. However, due to the rotation of three courses, competitors will feel the breeze a little more when they are assigned to Pebble than the two-thirds of their field. Even though wind will be strongest on Thursday’s first round, the average score of the field should still beat par. The clip for the four rounds of Pebble last year was 70.756. However, the average score over the first three days of pleasant weather was slightly lower. Spy was 72.179, which is not surprising considering the track’s most difficult in benign conditions. MPCC’s average score was 70.104 so it ranked in the middle of all three relative to par. All 54 greens have Poa annua, and can reach 12 feet on the Stimpmeter. Amateurs can enjoy themselves by keeping the primary rough to two inches. Pebble did some work on the inward side, most notably the landing area on 15th hole par-4. The only hole that had any length changes was the MPCC par-3 seventh. It’s now a mere 203 yards in length. MPCC is still the shortest of the trio at 6,934 yards. Pebble is at 6,972 yards while Spy can go to 7,041 feet. The AT&T’s top 10 would be eligible to enter the WM Phoenix Open next week. The Arizona dedicated category is usually just within the cutoff for Arizona entry, but the WM is a designated season event, so the top-10 might be excluded. If there are any, the top-10 exemption will be carried forward to The Honda Classic, February 23-26. It could be a very impactful week for KFT grads. The Genesis Invitational will see their category reordered. Those at the bottom of the rankings will not be able to play the PGA TOUR until the Puerto Rico Open, March 2-5. ShotLink can only be used on Pebble Beach. ROB BOLTON’S SCHEDULE PGATOUR.com’s Rob Bolton reviews and previews each tournament from multiple perspectives. His contributions will be as planned.
