NOTE: Rob will be focusing on three events. He is only looking for golfers who can perform well to progress in the FedExCup Playoffs. All five players below will be eligible to enter the FedEx St. Jude Championship, regardless of their ranking among the top 70. When available, scenarios for all golfers will be posted. Adam Long (+400 to be in the Top 20)… This should not be difficult because he is a top-20 player… when he makes cuts. This has been his consistent story over the years because he continues to capitalize on weekends. He is seeded 76th in this tournament, the final tournament of the season. This leaves him with only one chance to advance. He had four top 25s before a illness forced him to miss the Wyndham Championship’s second round. Two of those were top 20s. He also signed for two sub-70s in his first appearance at TPC Southwind 2019, which was part of the no-cut WGC. He finished T24. Brandon Wu (+180 for Top 40)… He’s the first to be allowed into the next phase of this overall objective at the door, and is therefore a default inclusion. The rookie, despite his impressive feat with a PGA TOUR card in the first half of the season, is grouped with the rest of the peloton in a very deep class. He’s an underdog to make it to the final, given his performance in the second half. He’s been able to score a pair podium finishes in the last five months among four top 10, the most recent being Sunday at Sedgefield (T8). He is 17th on PGA TOUR greens in regulation. This shows his confidence, no matter what track he plays, and he also made his debut at TPC Southwind. Adam Scott (+110 to a Top 40)… The 42-year-old Aussie is the most reliable to progress out of all the players outside the top 70. We all know a lot about him but he is 77th in points due to none of his 17 starts going for the top three. This is the result of a guy who has had 39 podiums and only two seasons without zero. It’s possible that the prop won’t be enough for next week’s field depending on how it bounces at TPCSouthwind. However, it’s still an acceptable expectation. His four attempts here have all resulted in a top forty, the latest three since 2017. Adam Svensson (+200 to get a Top 40)…. Using only the rearview mirror to focus, the Canadian angles are strong enough to be considered a threat. He’s currently 90th in points, and will need to do better than a Top 25, but that’s been his typical weekly result. He’s now 9-for-10 since the AT&T Byron Nelson and has five top 25s in his six previous starts. He is known for his irons, which are his strengths. With TPC Southwind’s relatively low targets, this should be a strong debut. Chesson Hadley (+250 to be a Top 40 player)… If your goal is to make a long shot, Chesson has a chip and a chair. He was outside the top 200 of the FedExCup seven weeks ago. He’s now 106th, riding his patent heater. He hasn’t stopped! He’s now 6-for-7 and has four top 10s since the Travelers Championship. To keep this momentum going, he would likely need another top 10 at TPC Southwind. But, he has already achieved the ultimate goal of keeping his card. He has nothing to lose and he can play for free on house money. These odds were generated on Tuesday, August 9, 2022. For live odds, visit BetMGM.
