Zach Johnson (+400 for Top 20)…. Zach Johnson’s days as a regular challenger for the two-time major champion have ended. The 46-year old’s attention now shifts to his duties as 2023 Ryder Cup captain. But he is still a man of the Golden Isles. The Iowa transplant is one of only two golfers (Chris Kirk), who have competed in every editions of The RSM Classic. He’s had a lot of fun playing at home, and it was worth the effort. He has cashed nine times, with three top-10s and six top-20s. He’s 5-for-5 in 2017 with four top 20s. Last year, he opened the T16 with a 61 at Seaside. John Huh (+1400 for a Top-20)… While light-hitting ball-striking is what has made many champions of the tournament, it also refers to a large number of people who turn up as horses because of their skill set. He’s 6-for-7 and has three top 15s, which includes T12s in the previous two editions. With a T27 at Mayakoba, where he was a past winner, the straight shooter has won four times this season. Andrew Novak… This season’s conditional status means that Novak is making his second start, but his first one yielded a Bermuda T17, so he’s buoyed at T119 in FedExCup. His rookie campaign in 2021-22 revealed that four of his top-25 finishes were on paspalum greens. TifEagle Bermuda is used on all 36 putting surfaces at Sea Island. Paspalum covers the fairways of the Plantation Course, and it’s mixed with bermuda on Seaside fairways. The local resident was T26 in his par-4 scoring on his second trip last fall. Chris Gotterup… Already having received his third sponsor exemption for as many starts this autumn, he converted a T51 in Silverado to a T44 at TPC Summerlin. He has secured starts in the Korn Ferry Tour’s first dozen events in 2023 after finishing T3 at the Qualifying Tournament near Savannah, Georgia two weeks ago. He made his debut at this level in Puerto Rico with a T7 and T4 in the Quad Cities in 2022. So he has been continuously maximizing the opportunities that have presented themselves after a stellar career at Rutgers, Oklahoma and both Rutgers. Akshay Bhatia… The 20 year old medalist at the open qualifier had an 8-under score of 62 at Brunswick Country Club under less-than-favorable circumstances. Although scores were not high overall, it’s still a great round of golf. He made nine birdies, and only one bogey. He will make his second PGA TOUR debut of the season. The lefty was T17 in Bermuda three weeks ago, and ranked T4 for greens in regulation. Like last week, when BetMGM added a line to allow Walker Lee to make it in Houston, Lee opened with bogey free 69 but missed out on the cut on the number. Bhatia is advised to be the default investment where available. The odds were sourced Tuesday, November 15, 2022. For live odds, visit BetMGM.
