Hayden Buckley (+400 to a Top 20)… Last fall was when Hayden Buckley, an unheralded rookie on the PGA TOUR, burst onto stage with a T4-8 fortnight that spanned the Sanderson Farms & Shriners. He’s back. He was T19 at Country Club of Jackson, where his 7-under 65 was second-lowest finish of the finale. He’s now 8-for-10 since June’s U.S. Open. At that time, he recognized how his adjustments were paying off as the lights turned on. He began to drift into territory where it wasn’t likely he would qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs. This has shown him the kind of talent that second-year talents who understand the value of hard work can bring back, especially on sites where he had done it before. Russell Knox (+350 to be a Top 20)… This 37-year old Scot has a great start to the new season. He’s been a top-25 machine over stretches of his 12-year-long career. This season, he opened with a pair. Although the sample size is larger than many alternatives, it still reflects his overall balance when gliding above water. He is also 6-for-8 at Shriners, with a podium finish in 2014 You can dedicate one unit to a Top 40 market if it opens. Taylor Moore (+225 to a Top 20) He deserves to score. The 29-year old PGA TOUR sophomore has won 10 consecutive starts. Half of those results in a top 25 including last week’s T24 win in Mississippi. He was third in scrambling and his tee to green game was excellent. On the strength of his outstanding mid-to-long-range putting, he also finished T24 at TPC Summerlin when he joined in 2011. Beau Hossler… In every season, at least one golfer is the poster boy for all the possibilities, despite being in conditional status. In 2021-22, he was that. He was unable to qualify for the Shriners because of his low ranking in the pecking order. He took advantage of a few opportunities and his FedExCup standing opened doors to all invitationals. He qualified for the Playoffs easily to regain full exempt status, eliminating any doubt about his ability to climb into the 144-man field at TPC Summerlin. He’s 4-for-4 and has a pair top 25s, averaging 68.13 per round since his T7 attempt in 2017. Robby Shelton… Shelton, like Hossler, relies on his flatstick to make noise. It could be an exciting week if both Shelton and Hossler focus on hitting the middles of targets. Shelton was the Korn Ferry Tour’s 2022 leader in putts per GIR as well as converting GIR to par breakers. He was the only multiple winner of the circuit, so it wasn’t surprising that he had most of the eggs in one basket. TPC Summerlin is also 2-for-2, with all eight of his scores being sub-70s. This week’s experience might feel like a KFT. The odds were sourced Tuesday, October 4, 2022. For live odds, visit BetMGM.
