Tiger Woods hosts the Hero World Challenge at Albany Golf Club in Bahamas. The year-end event will be held at the club designed by Ernie Els for the seventh time. Woods will be playing in the contest, which features FedExCup champions and up-and-coming TOUR stars as well as many other global notables. FIELD NOTES and STORYLINES: Woods is back in action for the first-time since The Open Championship. The 82-time PGA TOUR champion played three times this year – The Masters, PGA Championship and The Open – as he started his rehabilitation from a car accident in 2021. Woods will be hosting again in the Bahamas… Woods, along with his son Charlie, will tee off at The Match Dec. 10… Viktor Hovland will defend his title in the PNC Championship Dec. 17-18… Viktor Hovland will also make his Hero World Challenge debut… PGA TOUR Rookie-of-the-Year Cameron Young, International Presidents Cup team members Corey Conners, Sungjae im, Shane Lowry (former Open Championship winner), and Scottie Scheffler will return to the Hero field. Scheffler was runner-up in 2018…. Justin Thomas and Matt Fitzpatrick, the U.S. Open champions and PGA Championship winners, will be teeing up… Jon Rahm (who won 2018 by four shots) is set to return to the Hero field. To complete the 20-player field, Kevin Kisner (and Tommy Fleetwood) were granted tournament exemptions. FEDEXCUP – The Hero World Challenge does not award FedExCup points, but four past FedExCup winners will be there. Tom Kim, the fourth-ranked golfer in this year’s FedExCup, is the highest. The world-ranking points award will be presented. COURSE: Albany Golf Course. Par 72. 7,414 yards. Yardage subject to change. The Hero World Challenge will be held at Albany Golf Club for the seventh time. The 20 golfers will have to contend with windswept dunes and strategic water hazards. They also need to navigate a linksy layout that has five par-5s as well as five par-3s. The Hero World Challenge at Albany has produced four winners who finished 18 under. 72-HOLE REGARD: 262, Jordan Spieth (2014). Albany record: 263, Jordan Spieth (2014). 18-HOLE RERECORD: 61. Rickie Fowler (fourth Round, 2017). LAST TIME. Viktor Hovland became third European to win Hero World Challenge. He was also the first Albany debutant since Jon Rahm in 2018. Scottie Scheffler was one shot behind Hovland. He shot a 6-under-66 Sunday. Highlighted by back-toback eagles on Nos. 14 and 15, Hovland won by one shot. Collin Morikawa was in command of the 54-hole lead, but he made double bogeys at No’s 4 & 6 Sunday. He couldn’t recover and ended up with a final round score of 4-over 76. Scheffler was on fire Sunday, firing 6-under 30 for his last nine holes. However, it was too little too late. Hovland began the day six shots behind the leader, but still managed the trophy, despite being bogey-bogey. Patrick Reed and Sam Burns finished tied for third. Justin Thomas and Morikawa finished tied for fifth. Harris English, tied for 14th, shot Saturday’s round, a 9 under 63. Television: Thursday-Friday, 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. ET (Golf Channel).
